Progress for LGBTQ folks in Hungary likely won't come from the Tisza party. They'll be less overtly persecuted as they were under Orban but the new governing party is not exactly progressive on LGBTQ rights. What they will do is enable liberal institutions to once again protect human rights.
Opposition leader Péter Magyar at a rally.
Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people outside Hungary realise.
He systemically consolidated power for 16 years, fixed the electoral map, abused govt power for political purposes & censored media.
The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.
Orban concedes defeat. The support of Trump, Vance, Putin, Lavrov, Weidel, Milei, Le Pen, Fico, Babis and many others could not overcome Hungarian anger at a stagnant, corrupt regime

one immediate dramatic consequence of the Hungarian result:
Magyar has promised to repair relations with the EU and unblock a €90bn EU loan for Ukraine
Thinking of my Hungarian friends today. They deserve so much better than that petty, corrupt mess Orbán has turned their country into.
"I am deeply sorry" Boston University’s president apologized and paused the removal of LGBTQ+ Pride flags following campus backlash that included protests and a petition with more than 2,000 signatures #NOH8
The cover of The True True Story of Raja the Gullible (and His Mother) by Rabih Alameddine. It is a pale turquoise color with Arabic floral patterns, a cracked and chipped tea cup, and a thin red ribbon.
I just finished this magnificent book by @rabihalameddine.bsky.social. I laughed, I cried, I thought often of my own mom.

While the FSB withheld the man’s name, local and independent media earlier identified him as Alexander Andreyev.
Just saw over on Instagram that @firestorm.coop, a really awesome worker-owned radical bookstore and mutual aid hub in Asheville, NC, is struggling financially and needs support to stay open.
I highly recommend buying books from them, and becoming a sustainer on Patreon if you can!

SCOTUS dropping this on trans visibility day oof
If you don’t have a trans person in your current orbit it may be difficult to fully understand what is happening to them. There are extremely good reasons to help trans people if you can right now, in whatever way possible. Today is a day of visibility in a time where being visible is dangerous.

The designation comes days after Pavel Talankin’s film won best documentary at the 2026 Academy Awards.

When I was embarking on my first book of narrative non-fiction, I wrote
a proposal for publishers that cited three examples of the form that I thought beautiful and flawless. Two were "Soul of A New Machine" and "Among School Children." Tracy Kidder was a gentle, graceful master of the form.
A Russian court has banned the Oscar-winning documentary "Mr. Nobody Against Putin" inside the country.
In an interview with MT, co-director Pavel Talankin said he believes discussions around the film are already changing Russian society.

"Mr. Nobody Against Putin" is a compelling indictment of both Putin’s war in Ukraine and the society that enables it. And it’s a warning that, even if Putin were to die tomorrow, the mess in Russia would hardly be over.

A quote from Charlotte’s book
I was quoted in Charlotte Markey’s new book “The Body Image Book for Girls” (2nd edition)! I love this quote and am glad it made the final cut :)
