- Keep your traditional skills in practice to preserve the strength and dexterity of your hand and arm.
- Attend figure drawing sessions forever.
- Working in one field (games/animation) doesn’t exclude you from making comics, too.
- Editors would rather see inks than bad colors and letters.

Also:
- Watch Naoki Urasawa‘s Manben interviews on YouTube.
- Pay attention to page turns and use them for transitions and surprises.
- Make sure your preferred style is prominent in your portfolio.
- Make comics all the time and share them. A finished 8-page zine says more to me than an idea.

If it's just your 4th and 5th fingers it could be your ulnar nerve (it traverses the elbow in the 'funny bone' area). Especially if it's going numb if you rest your elbow on something (arm rest) or keep it bent for a long time.
