💕 To me at least this framing can sound very hopeless from the outside, but I’ve actually found it very empowering in practice

But I also think you can’t just go around saying this to people who are in the throes of anxiety and depression and that’s why I’m not a therapist.

Like I think the great lie that depression and anxiety foist upon us is that Someday you’ll feel better, someday it will somehow become easier, and then you can do the things you want to do and it won’t be so hard. But in my experience it just hasn’t worked that way.

I think the best and most abysmal lesson of my life so far has been that sometimes I’m just going to have to be fucking uncomfortable/anxious/mortified/etc, and the task is just to figure out what things I want to do badly enough that it’s worth being uncomfortable for them.
