Yep. Tends to be in areas with more bush present where they want preserve the "natural beauty" and keep reflectivity low.

There's a lot of factors that can impact the internal temperature beyond the external paint colour but it certainly has the potential to increase them.

Agreed but some areas require these dark colours due to planning rules. I've been wondering at what point they may change them to allow for lighter colours due to the effects of increasing temperatures on housing performance. Being NZ it won't be anytime soon.

Nice to hear some real-world feedback. You see these products but you wonder how they go IRL.

I like karaka too. Makes a change from all the solid black.

Or cheaper options like larch.

Talking to a manager at one of the new stores, they're tailoring them to the local demographics and then tweaking based on sales as time goes by.

Have a look at Resene CoolColours.

Personally, I like keeping fruit trees around the 2m high mark as it makes them so much easier to maintain and harvest. The feijoa can make a decent hedge if you need one but it depends if you want it looking good or providing fruit, it's an either or thing.

If you have plenty of space, why just three? Even if space was limited you could plant two in one hole, espalier or plant fruit salad trees.

Went to Waiheke this week. The ferries & buses were full but the island wasn't nearly as busy as expected, in fact it was quite pleasant. Talked to a business owner who said it peaked and started dipping pre-Xmas & hasn't been that busy so it wasn't just me thinking it was quieter. I wonder why?

Common sense is too radical for NZ.

If only this Planning Wayne would introduce mixed-use as the default zoning right across Auckland.

Wayne Brown has a lucid moment realising increased density is good for Auckland.

"...the more people you get in a place ... the better behaviour is the more people you get there, the more shops that are open the more people you get in a place and the more people on the street things get better,”

It seems pretty subtle to me, I'm sure he won't notice a thing.

Definitely worth the effort, even more so if it's going to be as dry and hot as they say it might be. You want all that energy going into establishing itself well first.

I figure it would just be easier to buy a boat.

I've lived in three of these cities and while not perfect they do have their charms.

Just a quick bike ride to the beach. Auckland is looking good today. More please.

Even if the climate goals are met a number of climate scientists are now projecting a 20m sea level rise. Welcome to the new North Island and the Centre Island. Interesting times ahead for Auckland.

2023 Protocol Roadmap | AT Protocol This post lays out the current AT Protocol development plan through the end of 2023

I see DM's are coming to Bluesky but not until after Federation happens so I guess sometime later next year.

Hydrofoils are great. They offer a much smoother ride than standard ferries. Less pitching and rolling. An electric one would be pretty great without the noise and smell of the diesels too. Auckland used to have a hydrofoil service and it would be great to have it once again.

Yep, not required for riding a scooter but is required for doing exactly the same thing on a bike...for reasons. 🙄
