Was out on a recreational ride in the hills today and ran into a bike shop ride with about 25 people. At a stop, someone asked me if I was on a mountain bike, I guess because I was the only person who was wearing baggy shorts. The cultural signification of lycra is powerful.

Good piece on this from Farhad Ebrahimi (Chorus Foundation): ncrp.org/resources/ho...
"We need to be explicit about who we’re supporting to build power and to what ends."
I think part of the reason the Pope thing is hitting so much is that modern life is so devoid of *any* morality, any system of right and wrong that is not completely hollow and fraudulent, which hits as halfway sensible and opposed to Trump and those like him, feels absolutely revolutionary
There will be another ICE-like agency doing ICE-like things and people who lived through ICE will know what it is.
The Berkeley diverters were mostly installed back in 1973. There's a little bit of park development along the Berkeley portion of the Ohlone Greenway, but mostly not directly from the abandonment of street space.
There's a new in-street mini-park on Horton in Emeryville.
Substantial difference is, those streets already didn't go through, so the development didn't require changes to traffic patterns.
Also can look at the diverters on Ney Avenue above Eastmont; it's not really a park, but those were requested by the community to calm the street.
You might want to connect with Gordon Douglas (planning faculty at SJSU): he lives in that neighborhood and wrote a book on urban interventions, partly inspired by the Buddha at E19th and 11th.
NEW by me. A poll found 41% believed doctors should have the conscience rights around MAID. To the rest I ask, Do We Really Want Doctors NOT to Have The Right To A Conscience? Especially Around MAID?

This no-tax-on-tops idea (initiated by Kamala, I'll note), is so obviously bad policy. So, doordash grandma shouldn't have to pay taxes on tips, but everyone at the McDonalds, who are all wage workers making shit money, should have to pay full taxes?
Thank you. I always appreciate your thoughts.
Link's not working.
Unfortunately both of these things may be true.
Here’s a short, seven-minute documentary about East Bay Kidical Mass @ebkm.org, posted online for the first time. Enjoy, and hope to see you at a future ride! youtu.be/10CImzRMSu8
Calvin Duncan, a man imprisoned for 30 years before he was exonerated, won an election in New Orleans promising to fix a judicial system that failed him
Now, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and the GOP-controlled Legislature are racing to eliminate his job before he can be sworn in
I have a question for Steph Curry about his investments in Israeli Security Tech. And maybe after you watch this you will too. Let’s make this hard for him to and others invested in this to ignore.

Today at Berkeley, students hanging a banner on Sather Gate for a divestment initiative.
Six months ago UCPD arrested and threatened expulsion for hanging a paper mache cockroach protesting Turning Point USA.

I think the most hilarious possibility (and, one that's plausible) is that Satoshi is some rando who's now either dead, or forgotten his password, and all that bitcoin is lost.
all these universities kept axing medieval history departments as if they thought tyrants beefing with the Pope was going to stop being relevant

Flickr was enshittified before enshittification was a thing. They're making some moves now to try to rebuild the brand for enthusiast/pro photographers but they have a lot of baggage to deal with.
Still the best platform API, 20 years later.
How did you come to use Thomas Hawk's image for the heading? He probably agrees with those dudes.
Easy viewing from the sidewalk on Moraga Ave and Monte. Or from inside the cemetery on the southeast side.
A pair nested out on Bay Farm Island by the airport maybe three or four years ago, but the nest failed. They set up a nest in Mountain View Cemetery last year which has become quite the local attraction. They appear to have another egg as of a week or two ago.
With two successful fledglings last year!
Adaptive solution!

Funny how many of TMBG's biggest "hits" are covers. (New York City, too).
Not so fast...

Totally understandable; I'd rather play with a mike in zero G than talk to TFG.
