It came! @innocence.com and I are terribly excited to dive into Issue 1!

(Very cute ghost sticker on the envelope, @crossroadsfolk.bsky.social)

Kanopy and Hoopla both have it! (I gotta get on that.)

I actually enjoy Hard-Boiled more but it’s messier and less perfect.

But this one has Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung!

The Three Colours trilogy is pretty peak. Also In The Mood For Love would be up your alley, I think, any time you want some truly depressing romance.

Probably wanna let the lad find his way to Crash on his own, though. For god’s sake don’t watch it with him.

You know I’ll bite on this.

You know, that’s my favorite explanation so far as a Gen Xer — that was a peak “irony is cool” era. I mean, we’re the assholes who spawned the Dartmouth Review and all its shallow children.

I myself am happy that I *could* go rent a VHS tape if I really wanted to but feel no compulsion to do so. Magnetic media is the pits.

TTRPGs for Trans Rights—Idaho by Rue (ilananight) and 230 others TTRPGs for Trans Rights—Idaho: 511 items for $5.00

This is why I really like @ilananight.bsky.social’s charity bundles — they attract the interesting games. Have you gotten around to buying this bundle yet? itch.io/b/3525/ttrpg...

The author is perfectly aware that this makes you a snitch, but also very aware that cars suck, and acknowledges the tension there — appreciated. Also nice that it’s Creative Commons licensed so if I wanted to remix it to spotlight the uselessness of Seattle cops I could.

Your Request Has Been Closed by lampbane A small party game that relies on government ineptitude.

Time for a highly specific random oddity! This one is sort of a political statement, sort of a game, and not as relevant outside NYC. Basically: report double parked cars and see how long it takes for the report to be closed without action. lampbane.itch.io/your-request...

Mmm hmm. Those decisions aren’t the reason why the dupe bugs existed but they sure made them a little trickier to fix.

But why would you use Windows servers? Yeah, long story. Same reason we used MS SQL with basically one big table: one column for IDs and one which had a binary blob containing player data. These days we’d make it a JSON blob in SQLite, I’m sure.

This is awfully consistent with long-standing Microsoft habits. I have this story from way back when I was launching an MMO running on Windows and Microsoft decided we needed to buy a Client Access License for every single player. “But this is just like a Web server!” “No. Buy the licenses.”

This is a trick. It’s actually a test since anyone who can identify more than ten of these is too online.

(I got a food theme going!)

In Diabolic Dialect (“Diabolical” is a typo), you play wizards and debate the effect of spells based on wording. So like D&D Wish but more so. You could also use the adventure in another system if you wanted; the setup and kickers are the cool bit.

The Gingerbread Factory by Storygames Chicago My, my. All the gingerbread has come to life! Rita Rhizome needs your help to fix it!

Little pamphlet adventure for a game called Diabolical Dialect. Sort of Willy Wonka vibes, with enough to hang an evening of play on if your group likes dark whimsy. The base game is also in the bundle. storygameschicago.itch.io/the-gingerbr...

It’d work. Hollows is a step in this direction, although each fight takes place in the same set of zones, but the general approach is I think what you want.

Let Meteora meet Mettle From The Sundered Marches - Let Meteora meet Mettle

Hey, everyone – to cover the costs of editing and the rest of the work needed to get the current manuscript out, decided to start a campaign.

Haven't launched yet, but we're going to need at least 30 followers in the next few weeks to go live. No commitment other than two clicks needed right now!

Ye Thirde Breakfast by F.B. Knauder A cozy micro RPG about halflings running a tavern

Kind of terminally twee. Still charming, with a nice lightweight system that builds in a focus on cozy moments. At 40 pages, there’re enough examples and tables to spark imagination. Also most of the NPCs include their food and drink preferences. fbknauder.itch.io/thirde-break...
