This "996" mindset ignores that a lot of creative work also depends on having enough downtime to let your subconscious play with things. If I had to code 12 hours a day, I'd be less effective than if I'm allowed to code 6 hours and let things percolate for 6. Too hard to quantify, I guess.

I suspect many do, but don't want to admit it.

It depends on the nature of the work. If I owned a company, it would be doing something I already find myself thinking about or tinkering with whenever I have free mental time, like making games or such. So I would consider sitting on the couch noodling about some game rule "working".

I mean if I owned the company or held significant equity, 996 would be the least I'd commit. But it's insanity to expect "mere" employees to work like they own it.

But you see, they're stock OPTIONS!

Still going. Over 120k words. I should be done around Thanksgiving, maybe a little after. After that... panic!
