If the Trump regime can disappear a NZ citizen into a no-backsies hellhole jail in a third country for visiting the USA legally for business or to visit family or see the sites, the USA is no longer safe to visit and the NZ govt should issue a travel warning saying so
So should every other country

Not a historian, but to my knowledge, this is the first time a sitting US Senator — or member of Congress, generally — or perhaps any senior US gov’t official — has included an f-bomb in an official press release.

Peters said that his party was not able to get their "heads around" DEI regulations when they were introduced in 2020.
Sorry, but Deputy Prime Minister and leader of NZ First admits entire party voted for something they didn't actually understand should be a much funnier and bigger story. So you're not a hypocrite, you're incompetent? Fantastic message.

Sometimes I wonder how corporate technology got so messed up. Overhearing a conversation about transferring a 'really large file' and so far it's been over 40 mins long and many options have been excluded as non-starters due to various difficulties. The file in question is 21mb.
“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

In NZ we've got right-wing populists attempting the exact inverse: the plain language and existing law and policy and jurisprudence of Te Tiriti o Waitangi is intolerable to them, so they are seeking to pave over it with a "who needs experts anyway" plebiscite based on simple ahistorical fabrication
The rhetoric on day 1 is the same as the rhetoric of the campaign. Trump is doing what he got elected to do. So things could get bad. Gaza has shown what vast numbers of people are willing to tolerate and rationalise, and once it spins up it will take on a life of its own.
Earlier, David Seymour - who is the minister in charge of the bill - told Stuff the volume of submissions was an “exciting” signal about interest in this topic. “Even people who don’t support my bill appear to be supporting the idea of mass participation in what the Treaty means in 2025. I think that is very, very exciting,” he said.
Semi-regular reminder that this logical fallacy talking point is going to be the one used to promote/justify a referendum, and that media don’t have to report Seymour’s words verbatim without context or critique - you *can* say he’s using false equivalence very deliberately here.
Guys, yesterday, I needed a cord I’ve been holding onto for 10 years.
IT WAS ALL WORTH IT.
If you ever find yourself thinking, "I know I'm doing this analysis in an inefficient way but it doesn't matter because I'll only have to do it this one time," God is laughing.

screenshot of an economist complaining that trump spewing nonsense about BLS stats should have been "front page news" but instead was "ignored." a washington post reporter who wrote a front-page story about exactly that replies, "it was literally on the front page of the washington post."
no shade to the op here, but i honestly think a lot of times when people are like "i can't believe the media ignored this story, it should have been front-page news," what they really mean is it should have been at the top of their social media feeds.

🔥 Greens co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick utterly nails it in her response to yesterdays release of the Half Year & Fiscal Update (HYEFU) which saw Finance Minister #NickyNoBoats Willis walk out of the House less than halfway through her speech.

Catching up with today’s news that our government appears to be borrowing an additional $6b over the next three years with … checks notes … absolutely nothing to show for it. Not a hospital, a ferry or a functioning research system. Nada.
Banner by Nürnberg fans: “You voted for Saudi Arabia yesterday and already ordering the One Love armband today? Your spine is exactly as flexible as your morals!”

If you think about it, there's no greater solution than the sea
Elon Musk, billionaire owner of Tesla, once belonged to a group of businessmen who played ruthless capitalists.
In the game, called "Monopoly," players aggressively pursue a plan of real estate domination, buying land and building homes and even hotels, while trying to avoid being sent to jail.
🏏🇳🇿 Seems to be a lot of people who haven’t been supporting the Black Caps for decades complaining about their wild form swings. The last 10–15 years has been an aberration. This is the Black Caps in their normal form. And you can now experience being a long suffering Black Caps fan. This is the way.
I've had to explain this to overseas' family several times. Our "lockdown" was largely "don't allow people from offshore to come in". We just carried on without that huge impact.
They've been told we had the most severe lockdown in the world and it went on for years.
A 4-panel comic Imagine being yeast in a fermentation tank. It must be so fun at first... Sugar everywhere, just a giant party. But then suddenly the sugar is gone and everyone suffocates in their own excrement. On an unrelated topic, I've decided to leave Twitter.

Back in my day, we didn't call it "woke", we called it "not being a dick to people".
Just kidding, we called it "political correctness" and racist talkback radio callers hated the fuck out of it.
Imane Chabel released from the Phoenix before even taking the bench. Privacy reasons cited but seems like there has to be more to that story right?
