It's a question I hear all the time, so we at @biologists.bsky.social thought we'd try to dispel some of the myths around publishing economics & provide transparency around our costs. Fun fact: A “Lord of the Flies” type thing actually DID happen…to a bunch of young boys of color (AHEM!) from Tonga…

…and they did NOT devolve into violence and mayhem.

They created their own rules and took care of each other until they were rescued by a fisherman over a year later!

Interesting assumption that this metric would read out authorship inflation rather than interdisciplinary collaborative authors.
