"Even with half a kingdom’s worth of distance between them, the mere memory of her stepfather could make her feel like a child again, small and angry and like everything she did—everything she was—was wrong." - Julie Leong: The Teller of Small Fortunes
hoot hoot hooray
How's the difficulty? I wanted to go for challenging ergo rewarding but ultimately still managable. I had to play it a lot though while the game was in development, so it's possible that I made the enemies too tough to handle for everybody else.
Is anyone actively working through Sublight Patrol, the game I launched today? Which mission are you on?
You have a point Rodrigo. There are a few big ticket items I would have done differently if I had the option to start from scratch on the game this year.
Investigating HTML canvas before committing to PixiJS would be one of them.
Building in TypeScript instead of plain JS would be another.
Thank you for reading to the end, enjoy the game, hope to see your name on a plaque in the Hall of Finishers soon! ;)
But after spending months and months more time on it than intended (e.g. the usual pattern in indie game dev :D), I also hold out hope that if I can put the game in front of the right type of nerd, they might get an evening's worth of entertainment out of it—hence this thread.
I've built the game over 7 months (five in 2020 and two more this year), hoping it could serve as a demonstration of my coding skills, to give me a leg up in technical interviews for Front End Developer positions.
Sublight Patrol is an open source and noncommercial (e.g. totally free) side-scrolling space shooter game you can play in your browser on any PC or Mac at the Url above.
Hello World, meet Sublight Patrol!
Saved any princesses lately? Now's your chance—let Commander Harris whip you into shape in double time, then throw you in at the deep end! Of space!

They joined the army to defend their country and not to make the already powerful even richer, so they are relieved and their heads are full of plans for a brighter, peaceful future.
The soldiers are heading back home after finding out that the war they were supposed to fight in was called off because it was stupid and pointless.

Chill Saturday morning. I'm getting really good at entertaining myself. :)
I like that. :D
I saw Yollo again today, hanging out in pretty much the same spot, then it flew up to a tree branch jutting out over the Danube proper.
Probably an awesome view from up there, hopefully it thinks so too and decides to stick around these parts for a while. :)
I've been visiting that spot 2-3 times a week the past couple of years, but have never seen a bird of this type before. I loved the way it moved, unhurried, elegant and delicate.
