So no. The government does not just send you a cheque because you are disabled.

I’ve had multiple disabilities since birth. I struggle with mobility. And I have never once qualified for any assistance just because I’m disabled.

The requirements are designed to exclude. And people who are disabled, but not deemed “disabled enough” fall through the cracks.

The decision whether you are disabled enough for support is up to the discretion of a government employee who knows nothing about your disability or your life, and is always going to try and find a way to say you are “able-bodied” enough and don’t need help.
