Phone bans are hilarious. I have told this story before but when I was teaching, nearly two decades ago, a kid would walk into period one with a mobile phone in his hand. As was policy, I would call down my head of department to confiscate it. He would give it up with no problems. 1/?

I am severely arachnophobic but I am dead sure if vaccines involved me getting bitten by a spider the nurse administering it would find a way for me to get bitten without me dying. Knock me out for it, put my arm in a tube, I'm okay, just gimme that juice.

Had my first shingles shot and it hurt like buggery and the nurse said "yeah a lot of folks don't come in for the second one because it hurts that much" and I am actually just baffled by that response. My arm hurt for two days. My mum was in agony for WEEKS with shingles. I Do. Not. Get. It.

Mid to late forties are a mixed bag in the end actually because on the one hand... hey... lots of folks you know are dying (including but not exclusive to your parents etc). Also you get a healthy dose of the fear of mortality because of this and your own creeping health issues.

Absolutely yes, I am lucky enough to live in a left seat in Sydney but even the most upper middle class mum in Vaucluse doesn't actually want her six million dollar mansion with deep water anchorage to be underwater in ten years.
I am in NO way a conservative but you'd think the LNP would have fucking learned SOMETHING from their comprehensive wipe in Sydney to conservative women who actually care about things like the environment and not being absolute cunts to everyone around them in a quest for money.
No shade on Jonathan Stroud because I love his stuff but because the books are written in first person we miss out on a lot of the other characters' perspectives and they're great.
