Do I teach the class (ie, DO MY FUCKING JOB) or make an absolutely useless point. I would do the rounds each morning and kid would have two phones confiscated. After that? I taught the class. He wasn't distracting anyone else. He just had a lot of phones.

This kid was exceptional and I bloody hope he's doing well these days although I have no way of looking him up because he was a Sudanese refugee and I'm 100% sure even the name on the roll wasn't his real name. That said, in the end, as a teacher, you've gotta make the decision... 3/4

Five minutes later he would take out his second phone and start using that. I would call my head of department, and if it was a slow day she would do it again. So then he would take out his THIRD PHONE and.. well... 2/?

Phone bans are hilarious. I have told this story before but when I was teaching, nearly two decades ago, a kid would walk into period one with a mobile phone in his hand. As was policy, I would call down my head of department to confiscate it. He would give it up with no problems. 1/?

Gonna do a double quote post and just say that Elizabeth's sound design was ALSO AMAZING and she did SO much justice to me saying "MAKE A BIG MAGIC BATTLE" and... not a whole lot more :D

Yeah I’m lucky that I could afford it. It SHOULD be covered by Medicare but here as well I think it’s not until 60, which I’m not willing to wait for

Oh yeah, unfortunately I had to pay - but since my husband had it and my mum’s was so bad I figured it was worth it.

I am severely arachnophobic but I am dead sure if vaccines involved me getting bitten by a spider the nurse administering it would find a way for me to get bitten without me dying. Knock me out for it, put my arm in a tube, I'm okay, just gimme that juice.

2 days ago 4 0 1 0

(I react very well to vaccines in general btw, I've never had any adverse reactions from ANY shots aside from sore arms at the injection sites but still. WEEKS OF AGONY vs A SORE ARM FOR TWO DAYS, what the fuck are you guys on??)

2 days ago 2 0 1 0

Had my first shingles shot and it hurt like buggery and the nurse said "yeah a lot of folks don't come in for the second one because it hurts that much" and I am actually just baffled by that response. My arm hurt for two days. My mum was in agony for WEEKS with shingles. I Do. Not. Get. It.

I'm pretty sure I started this thread with a good thing for the end but I've fucking forgotten it. Maybe go listen to a podcast. At the moment I like Three Bean Salad.

And then you also have deep existential fears about your own offspring (if you have them, if you don't that's a whole nother barrel of problems that I can't speak to) and whether or not you've prepared them for the coming issues with climate and socio-economic problems...

Mid to late forties are a mixed bag in the end actually because on the one hand... hey... lots of folks you know are dying (including but not exclusive to your parents etc). Also you get a healthy dose of the fear of mortality because of this and your own creeping health issues.

OH WE'RE BACK. I am on episode 3 of Twin Peaks as I was panic watching when Bluesky went down but I do have to say the Rock Breaking Bottles scene. I'm so fucking happy I grew up in an era of television where this was possible. What the actual fuck.

I forget sometimes that I actually studied History and then taught it for a while because it's been so long but the skills are still there. Who said humanities were useless?

Conclusion was: I'm probably right but in order to be definitive in public about it I'd have to do a PhD and I don't have time right now thanks any way.

Sometimes I love the internet. Had a hypothesis, started writing a post about it, went down a rabbit hole of research (NO AI THANK YOU ALL WIKIPEDIA AND REPUTABLE SITES) found out it's probably too complicated for me to make a post about it, learned some new shit, DIDN'T make the post.

She catsits for us when we're in the Dordogne, I don't know what we'd do without her, honestly.

And Richard and Anne, you know them, a block over? Their daughter is trans actually and she's lovely, so polite!

Also her non-white neighbours have class and, most importantly, money, it would be super inconvenient and uncouth for people to be coming around and deporting them!

Absolutely yes, I am lucky enough to live in a left seat in Sydney but even the most upper middle class mum in Vaucluse doesn't actually want her six million dollar mansion with deep water anchorage to be underwater in ten years.

I am in NO way a conservative but you'd think the LNP would have fucking learned SOMETHING from their comprehensive wipe in Sydney to conservative women who actually care about things like the environment and not being absolute cunts to everyone around them in a quest for money.

No shade on Jonathan Stroud because I love his stuff but because the books are written in first person we miss out on a lot of the other characters' perspectives and they're great.
