Yeah, that's bad. Dumb populism.

Think about it this way: If you had a pot of cash to hand out, who would you send it to? I'm guessing you wouldn't say: “Folks who drive a lot are obviously the neediest; that's who deserves my cash.. Also, I would love to subsidize reliance on foreign oil.”

Universal healthcare would set us free in so many ways. It would give us options, let us take more time from work, increase wages and provide better conditions if companies wanted to retain workers. It's more intrinsic to freedom than people may realize.

Since 1994, immigrants have paid more in taxes than they receive in benefits every year.

Do not believe the lies you hear about immigrants.

They are good for society and the economy.

I have news for you: It's not just the basic sciences. They also need the social sciences and humanities...probably more so than the basic sciences!

Henceforth, I will be describing the way that U.S. men’s hockey spectacularly squandered good will, brand recognition, and fan loyalty as “pulled a Target.”

They pulled a Target.

Albertans did not give Danielle Smith and the UCP a mandate on 9 new referendum questions.

Or on separatism, or pulling out of the CPP, or breaching charter rights, or coal mining in the Eastern slopes, or bringing in two-tier health care.

Cut the bullshit. Call the election.

Medicare for All - "That's socialism!"

Social Security - "That's socialism!"

Debt free education - "That's socialism!"

Universal childcare - "That's socialism!"

Billions for ICE, refurbishing Trump's Qatar jet, and tax cuts for the rich...

"That's just how it is."

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Proud to be an executive producer on 'American Doctor', the film about 3 US doctors who volunteered in Gaza, which premiered at Sundance. I knew early on that their stories needed to be told and I'm delighted Zeteo could help bring those stories to the screen.

Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

During apartheid, South African armed forces killed 69 civilians in the Sharpeville Massacre. The world was shocked. This event is still taught in history classes.

On average, Israel has massacred more than 70 Palestinian civilians *every day* for the past 18 months.

The Executive Committee of the Graduate Center PhD Program in Sociology condemns the recent detention of Mahmoud Khalil, a lawful permanent resident and graduate of Columbia University. Mr. Khalil is an outspoken activist and advocate for Palestine, and he was a mediator for student groups protesting the genocide in Palestine. Freedom of speech is a core principle of any democratic society and is enshrined in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. By detaining Mr. Khalil, with the intention to unlawfully deport him, the Trump administration has committed an egregious, unprecedented violation of this right. This sets a dangerous precedent, which has already been extended to other individuals.

These actions by ICE, at the behest of the Trump administration, impact the rights and safety of members of our campus community, including our many international students and other scholars. It is imperative that we protect our students from being retaliated against for the content of their speech, or for their immigration status, especially as they attempt to ensure human rights are defended throughout the world. We reaffirm our collective commitment to protect the rights of our students as they exercise their constitutional rights, and call on the CUNY Chancellor and Graduate Center President to do the same.

In the most important sense, Columbia is not a university at present.
