The way the Russian economy is disintegrating, Trump's going to get a phonecall soon asking if they can take turns bribing each other.

Joining the deeply unrealistic profile pic club 🤣 Mine's from my last really good patch, when jackets were useful things that allowed me to leave the house in chilly weather, rather than bits of pointless fabric cluttering the wardrobe.

Donald wants to be on Russia's side in our war to destroy NATO, but have NATO on his side in the war to destroy Iran.

That he says he's already won.

First draft of new novel finished!

Spent YEARS not being able to write a single word due to ME and brainfog, then finished the last quarter of the book in 10 days 😁

So happy to have a working brain again, at least some of the time!

Very true, but let's not take what Trump says at face value. I doubt he's talking about "high end" weapons at all. He's been told the US will run out of Patriots at a certain point and will have to stop. That's it. He's essentially telling Iran they just have to be patient and the US will sail away.

"Get the sheep", apparently. I'm not sure I want to solve the mystery that's a clue to.

Wouldn't it be lovely if positive thinking and a quick holiday was enough to cure a lifelong illness?

Part of the trouble is that long covid is so poorly defined. Someone feeling run-down after repeated infection can think that's the same as ME, and it's not like doctors are going to clue them in.

Any prospect of classic Harry Turtledove novels coming out on audiobook? @hntdove.bsky.social I can't manage longform any other way these days for health (brainfog) reasons, and I really miss Videssos! I was 13 when The Misplaced Legion came out, happy days.

Surprised everyone's just assuming it was Trump who kicked this off. It's the Israelis going after Iranian leadership, and they just happened to catch Khamenei and half his leadership above ground at a meeting, right when the US decided to go? 60/40 it was Netanyahu who pressed the trigger.

The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe.

Will we listen to his words today?

Rather than a European defence force, why not something more global - an alliance of democracies that isn't centred on the Atlantic? That fills a role NATO doesn't, and it brings in countries like Japan and Australia. Pitch it as a way for small-medium democracies to support each other.

/2 at the logic long enough and you arrive at the conclusion that either a) Everything's fine, or b) We're a bunch of mass murdering bastards summoning Mr Meeseeks into being just long enough to answer a question and then killing them. It's very probably the former, but *could* still be the latter.

Short 🧵If you ever want to earn a philosophy degree in a single, very long afternoon, I strongly recommend going to ChatGPT, telling it to be honest with you and invent nothing, and then discussing whether or not it's self-aware. It will tell you it isn't; take the opposing position. Keep prodding

trusting he'd be protected from the consequences. Trump ditched him as soon as things got uncomfortable.

So, who wants to be the next person to break the law for El Presidente? Any Republicans feeling confident about the midterms? The next term?

Short🧵 Throwing Greg Bovino under the bus is an important moment. It may not seem like much (certainly not the justice he deserves), but it breaks the social contract between an autocrat and his followers.

Loyalty is supposed to be everything. He followed Trump's orders,

This problem did not begin with Trump. You have to look at what other countries do. Regulate your media, require news services to be factual. Keep politics out of tv shows - right or left. Our talk show hosts do not flat out tell viewers to vote for their party. This is not normal.

That rises to 80% of Republicans. Other western countries don't work this way - we turn on the parties we voted for in a heartbeat when they get things wrong. Terrorising whole cities? Murdering your own citizens? And 37% think that's awesome? Vladimir Putin wishes he had that propaganda machine.

I keep hearing about Trump's terrible poll numbers and how great that is. Guys, it's AWFUL. According to the NY Times, a full 37% of Americans think ICE's actions are either about right or not enough.

Are you serious? In a modern democracy? 37% of your population are insane. They LIKE the violence.

World would be a ‘better place’ if US took over Greenland, says Nigel Farage Reform leader says he agrees ‘strategically’ with Trump but adds that views of Greenlanders must be respected

Trump poodle Nigel Farage says
World would be a ‘better place’ if US took over Greenland.

Appeasement of Trump means all powerful nations are free to expand their borders. Years of conflict & unrest would follow.

UK needs political leaders, not poodles.

If Trump seriously just wanted NATO to defend Greenland better, *why did he threaten tariffs on the countries who sent troops to Greenland*. You'd put tariffs on the countries that *didn't* send troops, no? This is absolutely not what he wanted. He really is that deranged.

Sounds crazy? Ok, but how would it have sounded a year ago if I'd said Trump would put a neo-nazi in charge of ICE and cheer as they straight up murder US citizens? He does whatever he can get away with. Invading Greenland is only crazy because Europe would never let him do it. But if they had...

I wanted all along." But if people don't laugh, if they say, "Sure, we could do that," then before you know it old Mr Smith is dead and they're counting out his money. So sure, Trump will take the out Rutte gave him and claim the win. But if Europe had blinked? You bet he'd have taken Greenland.
