Just a reminder to all grad students that we definitely DO NOT keep a "Grad Student Power Ranking" in the faculty lounge where we update your ranking weekly based on performance (along with little arrows indicating your movement relative to last week). Just something faculty, again, do not do

I had seen this classic of course but not all the other stuff
Incredible stuff (click & scroll up)
😂
He hit it right at the goose!! Rude
Yeah, it seems like CA dems got lucky this time around (in more ways than one). It seems like they should really be wanting not to leave it up to good luck in the future!
I feel like you hear a bit less of the dumb old "you know what's wrong with our politics? PARTISANSHIP" line than you used to, so maybe someone could just get that ballot initiative rolling before the current system causes a disaster
Is California going to have to traumatize itself by electing an actual Republican governor in order to get up the energy to change its stupid primary system?
Many of our budget lines for next year have been set to zero, including all travel, professional development, and office supplies including copying/printing. No reductions to TT faculty but I am very concerned about our non-TT faculty. So, additional millions in cuts would have been catastrophic.
For context, every unit on my campus was just forced to submit a budget for FY27 reflecting a 10% cut. This was BEFORE these proposed state budget cuts. So we're still staring down life-altering budget reductions for next year but at least it isn't immediately going to get much, much worse
Well this is some unexpected good news, to put it mildly. I genuinely wonder what the story is behind the reversal of these cuts
Not to sing, whistle, OR THINK the melody 😂
Just for @pa.ulst.ar:
Toughest spinet: Acrosonic
Best professor garb is tweed
Sickest windstorms? They’re cyclonic
Finest mount: a noble steed
Verdi coming up with a weapons-grade meme in 1851
Hahaha! oh boy, what a travesty.
It sure was!!
Reading the replies and quote posts with interest because my personal writing style is to draft directly in pristine, finished prose that I produce at the rate of one word every billion years
10 or so repeat viewings of this clip will cure what ails you. Actually, better make it 20 just to be safe
Happy to sign this as a graduate alum. Awful cuts that remind me of what’s going on at my own current institution.
It looks like it’s in incredible condition too. I hope it goes to a very, very appreciative and suitable home.
Should be a standard furnishing in all American houses!
Yeah so did the one I learned on. It's crazy how many of them are still kicking around—they have to be the most durable cheap pianos ever made. My mom finally gave it away a few years ago and it was indistinguishable from how it had been 30 years earlier
I've never seen a piano that looks like that!
Many (well, 3 or 4) are the gimmick accounts I've failed to keep up with before I even had enough material to publicize them 😭
Yeah I just went down the Acrosonic rabbit hole trying to figure out if the piano in this pic @natalieweiner.bsky.social just posted was one. Our piano when I was a kid was an Acrosonic and it was a freaking tank
My own piano also has fantastic-looking midcentury design (v. different from this one of course) so I'd have to keep the Acrosonic in a different room so they wouldn't fight
Pretty hilarious to think of spending 10K on a piano that is generally in the "you can have it for free if you come haul it away" category, but I have to say this styling would look great in my house
And who wouldn’t be tempted to leave the door just a little ajar?
I would buy the book-length version of this thread on the brilliance of the English ""translation"" of the Les Miz lyrics
