You can only read 600 posts per day on Bluesky because that’s how many there are

lol when I was little i thought my middle name was "zebra" (it's actually "Deborah") and I didn't think it was weird to have my middle name be "zebra" because in my head I was like "we live in Africa so it makes sense" 🙃🦓

It’s amazing that a news cycle dedicated to the titanic lead directly into the week of Twitter sinking

On the bright side loadshedding is pushing more people to get solar installed and we have also met our goals on emission cuts! 🙃

and then sometimes in stage 6 we have 2 back-to-back sessions spread out throughout the day, so that means 8 hours of no power! Loadshedding is very annoying and stressful, it has impacted our economy big time and is damaging to our appliances.

we have what is called "stages" that determines how many hours of black-outs we'll have in a day. Each session of black-outs is around 2 hours long, so for example for stage 5 (the highest is stage 8) we can have 2 sessions back-to-back - so that's 4 hours of no power.

Basically it's the result of old apartheid policies coming to bite us in the ass (the apartheid government only planned to supply the minority white population so the ANC inherited infrastructure that could not support everyone) and corruption & incompetence from the ANC lead government.

To all the non-south africans who follow me, loadshedding is the term we give to the scheduled black-outs we have to conserve electricity because we do not have enough to support the whole of South Africa at once. It was first introduced in 2008 and is now a inplace indefinitely since last year.

You’ve gotta give Elon Musk some credit: Sure, he transformed Twitter into a haven for misinformation where the worst people on earth can pay to be first in your replies, but at least it doesn’t work

It’s just really funny to be like “oh I may lose a fortune but it’s worth it to SAVE FREE SPEECH” and then six months later it’s “yo you want to read shit you better pay me, you want retweets that’s money, you want to know if that tornado watch is real or a joke? You guessed it pay up”

There’s no master plan. There’s no grand evil scheme. There’s only a catastrophically stupid man who’s finally run out of both cover and runway, who doesn’t know how anything works, who fired most of the people who do and terrorized the rest into silence.

What is public and what is private on Bluesky?

Bluesky is a public social network.

Posts and likes are public.
Blocks are public.
Mutes are private, but mutelists are public lists. Your mutelist subscriptions are private.
Invites and invite trees are private.

Why are my posts, likes, and blocks public?

The AT Protocol, which Bluesky is built on, is designed to support public conversations. To make public conversations portable across all sorts of platforms, your data is stored in data repositories that anyone can view. This means that regardless of which server you choose to join, you’ll still be able to see posts across the whole network, and if you choose to change servers, you can easily take all of your data with you. This is what causes the user experience of Bluesky, a federated protocol, to be similar to all the other social media apps you have used before.

hey new users, Bluesky is a *public* social network

please read about data privacy and more in our User FAQ to help you get oriented! even though we require an invite code to create an account, you should treat any posts here as if it's a public blog

New users, please know that the design of this site means (among other things) that your blocks are public and it’s very easy for anyone to collect and save everything you post - like nude photos.

When things are going great

I knew that Twitter was quickly on its way out as a breaking news and OSINT source, but I suppose I didn’t expect Elon to shoot it in the head entirely on a holiday weekend.
