This reproducible framework can help build the case for rapid response to invasive pests. Explore the model results on SyncroSim Cloud by searching for 'Asian Long-horned Beetle' from the Explore page 🔗 cloud.syncrosim.com/explore

The findings were clear:
🪲 Unmanaged infestations spread fast
🌳 Early aggressive tree removal leads to eradication
⏱️ Short-term loss beats long-term mortality
📍 Dense forests (like Muskoka) fare worse than urban areas
Using ST-Sim in #SyncroSim, we simulated beetle spread across two Ontario landscapes over 20 years, modeling the real Mississauga infestation and hypothetical future scenarios, with and without management.
🌎️🧪Eradicating Asian long-horned beetle from southern Ontario meant removing thousands of trees. New modeling work with the Invasive Species Centre shows why that trade-off was worth it.
Those refugia are the real story. Pinpointing where ecosystems are likely to persist gives conservation planners something concrete to prioritize monitoring and inform land protection decisions.

Here's what the simulations showed:
🌱 Aspen forests shrank under warmer, drier conditions
🌾 Grasslands expanded — first to plains rough fescue, then to increasingly dry types over time
📍 Climate refugia emerged where ecosystems can hold on longer
We modeled how aspen & fescue ecosystems across Riding Mountain (MB), Prince Albert (SK), and Elk Island (AB) National Parks might respond to climate change through 2100, using a spatially explicit state-and-transition model within #SyncroSim.
🌎️🧪 Aspen forests in Canada's prairies are declining — but some pockets could persist until the end of the century. We partnered with @Parks Canada to find out where they'll hold on longest.
The course also offers a rare chance to connect with fire & forestry professionals from across Canada all in one room.

So what's new?
The goal: make ecological forecasts usable.

#EcologicalForecasting #OpenScience #DecisionSupport
This summer at the Ecological Forecasting Initiative conference, ApexRMS is hosting a workshop:
Making Forecasts Usable: Open-Science Decision Support with #SyncroSim
We’ll show how users can build reproducible workflows and turn forecasts, uncertainty, and scenarios into decision-support tools.
Great ecological models don’t matter if decision-makers can’t use them 🌎️🧪
Ecological forecasting is advancing rapidly, but too often results never reach the people making real-world decisions.
SyncroSim Console also integrates cleanly into cloud & containerized workflows, making it easy to build automated pipelines and reproducible research infrastructure.
Develop locally. Scale when needed.
