Watching an old British Baking Show, they're making fruitcake. I cackled at Paul Hollywood saying "how much moisture is that fruit going to release?"

And that's what made his blog a must read, and any time I saw a movie or read a book I could count on his opinion on it being above the usual discourse.

The best part is I never saw him stoop to the usual online arguments and name calling that many (including myself) engaged in. He was the high road.

He was whip smart. I don't usually say that about my fellow nerds and geeks, but he wasnt just knowledgeable about the world of pop culture. He could carry on a conversation on any topic you brought to the table. We started talking comics and it gave way to toys and music and eventually fatherhood.

I had the pleasure of being in his orbit for 15 years. We would exchange messages on social media and even did some podcasts together.

I'm gutted. Will was like a guest star in the movie of my life for the last 15 years. Podcasts and messages but never met him in person and it tears me up I won't be able to. He was the model nerd, passionate and positive and smart and able to keep his head up.

It's funny how GIJOE's 1980s cartoon is a bit more mature and dramatic than the Transformers series produced in tandem, and yet the legacy ends up being that GIJOE is campy and Transformers is the serious sci fi series with deep lore.

I had one that I purchased when I worked at Blockbuster video back in 1998, maybe 4.99 since it was a used rental copy. Didn't take it with me when I moved out, who knows if it got thrown out or yard sale.

If I see one again I'll probably buy it just to have it.

Despite the fact that I own this on DVD, Blu Ray, and 4k, I will probably put this on via Netflix as well.
