It’s always a pleasure to spend time with @gertymac.bsky.social, especially at a @ncwritersnetwork.bsky.social conference!

I deleted and reposted because I messed up one of the tags. DERP!!! And I don't know if it's public yet, so I leave it to @lmariewood.bsky.social to say or not say! :D

@lmariewood.bsky.social's got an upcoming novella that knocked my socks off! Many HWA friends leap to mind:
@jeswrites.bsky.social,
@samanthabwriter.bsky.social,
@joncarrollthomas.bsky.social,
@bennetteharding.bsky.social, just a ton of great writers are out there right now.

CAAAAACKLE! I feel that! I saw an episode here and there when it was on but this is my first time watching it through. Incredible storytelling, and so genuinely funny. Top notch performances and writing.

I start with fiction & non- (diaries, newspapers, contemporary accounts) written *in* that period, then nonfiction written *after* that period *about* that period, to reflect the characters' native experience *and* our distance from it. Any excuse to read nonfiction, amirite?

I write nonfiction folklore from my native region here in the southeastern US, science fiction, urban fantasy, and (very occasionally) my newsletter. Horror informs all of that, though. Horror is a great laboratory for figuring out what *really* matters to characters.

I'm Michael, I write queer cosmic & supernatural horror!

This week I'm reading "Dance When They Want You to Cower," an anthology with several friends in it, and watching "My Name is Earl" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." This is how we get through the time of true horrors.

This is amazing, thank you for sharing it! (Would it be possible to be added to it? I write queer horror and sci fi.)

Typos are how you know my skeets are 100% human, and thus I hold them high with sincere pride. Sets of sets! SETS OF SETS! Behold my humanity!

Here's a photo featuring a stack of the book Familiar by Jeremy C. Shipp. There's another copy leaning against the stack, with the cover facing the camera. The cover shows an open mouth with lips made of muscle and teeth made of fingers and a tongue made of intestines. In the back of the mouth, there's an eye.

My fabric art homunculus is sitting on the stack of books. She's green with big sparkling red eyes and a tiny frown. There's also a black and red mushroom near the stack with a large eye. Near the stack, there's also a pinecone covered with googly eyes.

I could use some help spreading the word.

My new little book is about two sisters who hunt down killers and collect body parts while complicating their lives with volatile magics, bizarre visions, and a mysterious mouth in the wall.

Think Junji Ito meets Little Women.

If I wrote a book about a fascist backed by evangelicals, racists, and misogynists using shitty CGI to pick a fight with the Pope, I'd get laughed out of town. Every news alert feels like it's the union of a dystopian Mad Lib and three sets of contradictorily-themed sets of magnetic fridge poetry.

I feel like the whole 47 v. Pope sitch demonstrates a truth many of us have known and said for 10+ years now: anybody could have stood up to him at any time. The bootlickers who haven't are simply craven or cowards. He's a dumb, mouthy bully and dumb, mouthy bullies crumple in the first stiff wind.

3,000 more words of THE COME BACK KIDS, my next Appalachian cosmic horror novel set in Hazel Branch. A good, messed up chapter, if I say so myself.

@ncrabbithole.com, I'm catching up on emails after a couple of very busy day-job weeks, and just read your article on cemeteries where shopping malls are (or want to be). Fascinating and gruesome. Definitely taking notes for a future horror novel. :)

Imagine trying to teleport to a Waffle House and winding up at a Huddle House instead. Unthinkably embarrassing and awkward. 🫣
