Of course this is also an issue with games becoming way too costly and spending years in development, but in truth they want things to sell and are afraid to be risky with new ideas since they have no idea if it'll sell or not.

The thing is, the industry wants consistency and as much as indie games are a good variety, they're not consistent sellers.

It's a conflict between wanting something they know will sell Vs something that to their surprise sells.
