It’s unquestionably true much of it derives from not having spaces they should have. Where are the laser tag joints? kid friendly dining establishments EOTR? Teen dance clubs? Why do kids have to cross into MD or VA to go to a mall? We had mall fights in my day. We didn’t ban all kids from the mall!

Do parents have a role? Yeah, a large role, but in all this parent blaming discourse people also forget that sometimes, even often, the parents aren’t very grown up. They’re young themselves and many work multiple jobs day and night to get by. Parents need support AND kids need a village.

People are going to say “yeah, but the behavior!” Look- teens act out. If it’s violent, they can be held accountable. But if you can’t see that behavior is also a REACTION to control, remember: “the child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.”

It’s shameful the way we are treating young people in DC. I went to HS football games every Friday; DC kids can't go without a chaperone. I went the mall to hang out; DC kids can't go to DCUSA without an adult. They can't enter Navy Yard wihout a military interview. It’s just wrong.

So…WHY can we not agree that a new tax (which we’ve now established wouldn’t affect any business staying in or leaving DC and would only tax large firms) should be the back up plan if savings, as we mostly agree, won’t make up the difference to cover this and other essential needs?

- We agree some parts of DC gov waste money, are inefficient and we can save
- We agree those savings, while important, won’t be enough to fully fund essential child care, health care needs
- We agree it’s not the early childhood sector wasting money.

Here’s my curiosity about this tax conversation… most seem to agree on these facts, but are still at odds:
- We agree we need to fund early childhood educator pay and make child care affordable

By the way, this is what a “ramped up” campaign looks like in case anyone is taking notes. Canvasses all across the city, phone banks, dance party fundraiser, debates… a campaign built to respect and engage the voters it’s asking to serve.

VO, Goodweather, and Jack Evans all are saying kids in DC's public and charter schools need more testing and assessments, even in PK.

Evans also says we wouldn't be in this current budget situation if he was still on Council.

CNN reporting that the strikes on Iran tonight are joint US and Israeli strikes.

Which means Donald Trump should be impeached for a third time.

What he has done tonight is illegal under the US constitution and the UN charter.

Get me a mayor whose achievements are making DC more equitable, affordable, inclusive, safe, & just. A mayor who can say all public schools improved. A mayor who can demonstrate historic environmental protections & investments. Get me a mayor who we end up calling Governor. #DCStatehood

Couldn’t agree more that serious times demand a serious leader. Having a mayor that doesn’t understand the gravity of throwing her own people under the bus to submit to a fascist regime - and then pretend she isn’t- is deeply alarming. Time for new leadership.

Democrats in Congress: Hold the line.

Do not back these bills that jeopardize DC’s right to govern itself.

DC is a testing ground for tactics that MAGA will try across the country.

Vote NO, and focus on helping struggling families afford health care.

I'm not covering the half of it. The only way's in which she's slightly progressive is like "I favor gay marriage" kind of progressive. In other words- she's much closer to Joe Manchin or Michael Bloomberg- conservative Dem/ liberal Republican. NOT close to "moderate progressive".

❗️Every advocate in the city- even moderate ones- know she's approached the job from an "in crowd" and "out crowd" perspective and very vindictive to anyone who crosses her even once
❗️CRAZY cold and hostile to press

❗️Has opposed almost EVERY SINGLE PROGRESSIVE ballot initiative from tipped minimum wage to ranked choice voting.
❗️Sides with Trump and allowed federal forces to terrorize our neighbors, kidnap residents.

❗️On housing policy while she's built more affordable housing she has been hostile to Emergency Rental Assistant programs, deeply corrupt administration of housing, consistently sided with landlords and slumlords over tenants

❗️Consistently in favor of more policing and policies that criminalize youth- curfews, SRO expansions etc...
❗️Has fought against attempts to build more stable and equitable school funding, ignored teacher turnover, cut child care pay equity program and undermined its funding

❗️Has opposed every progressive tax policy proposal, always argues we don't need to raise more revenue and stacked the tax revision commission with wealthy elites who oppose progressive taxation.
❗️Has described herself as in the mold of Bloomberg/ Liberal Republican/ 3rd way Dem

❗️She fundamentally believes in trickle down economics- her whole "growth agenda" is to put more money into the hands of the wealth, businesses and revitalize neighborhoods hoping it resolves crime, helps poor. This is conservative economics, not "moderate progressive"

❗️Bowser fought hard against PFL- almost every Dem nationally supports this- it's a moderate
❗️Every year she slashes safety net programs vast maj. of even moderate Dems nationwide support in her budget, council tries to restore them! (child tax credit, health alliance, etc..)

On the first episode of the new @cuneytdil.bsky.social & @trsdc.bsky.social podcast (which is great)- Sherwood describes @mayorbowser.dc.gov as a "moderate progressive". I think the record shows she's a conservative Dem/ liberal Republican at best (in mold of Manchin/ Bloomberg). Evidence ⬇️

On offense the problem was actually trying TOO hard to get it to AJ. Just do what comes naturally. Need better design but also can't design to his social media posts and ego.
