The first two singles, “Sail” (written and recorded during the As Long As You Are sessions, and released on a limited tour-only 7" in 2025) and “Find Love” (originally released in 2011 as the B-side to “Before the Bridge”), are out now—two songs from different moments in this story.
From the everyday to the dream, this record captures the moments in between: the slow burners, the overlooked pieces, and the paths that shaped who we became as a band.
A collection of rare and long-hidden recordings, tracing our journey from house shows and small rooms to the world this music opened up for us. These songs have lived quietly in the background over the years—shared between fans and held onto by us—a kind of secret history.

2026. 20 years of Future Islands.
From house parties to stages around the world, thank you for being there with us through every era of this journey. We wouldn’t be here without you — and it honestly feels like we’re just getting started.
After the long road to releasing the record, it felt good to be back on the road so steadily. A personal favorite from that run was @kilbyblockparty in Salt Lake City. Let us know if you were there!

2025 started with a winter writing session in Baltimore — the first sparks of the next album slowly beginning to take shape. The months that followed were spent deep in touring behind People Who Aren’t There Anymore.
We began 2024 with the release of our seventh album, People Who Aren’t There Anymore. After the long stretch from the release of ALAYA through the lost touring years, this was the first time in a while that an album could fully live its life in the world — release, tour, and connection.
We were lucky the weather held, though we had these dramatic, gloomy clouds rolling through. It was a long shoot — I think we wrapped around 2 or 3am. A highlight was climbing to the top of the lighthouse at night with the beam sweeping out over the ocean.

The Tower shoot, 2023. Filmed at the Oak Island Lighthouse in North Carolina, this was a pretty surreal day on set — and actually a lot of fun, since we got to spend so much time by the beach.
Much of 2023 was spent touring in support of ALAYA, and by the end of the run, three years had passed since we’d released a full-length album. That fall, we mixed People Who Aren’t There Anymore and began making plans for a January 2024 release.
Amongst the many shows we played that year, one that will always remain close to our hearts was our appearance on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’ where we debuted ‘King Of Sweden’. The energy in The Ed Sullivan Theatre was electric. This was one for the books!

A major highlight from this year was playing our largest headline show ever — to an audience of 10,000 at Alexandra Palace in London.

In that strange overlap, we slowly began writing and recording what would become our seventh album. One of those songs, “King of Sweden,” was released in February 2022 — at the time, just a stand-alone single.
