In the next five years, we are going to do LOTS of census linking ๐๐๐๐๐, produce new transcriptions of all UK censuses 1841-1921, and use these to study migrations and demographic transitions, thanks to @ukri.org !

New read for anyone interested in the task/occupation debate and their suitability for studying structural change.
Apply for the ESSHC 2027 and come to visit us in Lyon!
Another great paper in our working paper series by Amy Erickson.
What I find the most infuriating is that I wrote to the entire EDI team of @cam.ac.uk and I did not even receive an answer. I really wonder what the point of all the talk about equality is. I would like to see concrete acts, not mere slogans about gender equality.
The person in charge of the postdoc centre flatly denies their policy is discriminatory (โsince it applies to men and women equallyโ!!!) and tells me their insurance policy does not allow them to have an infant on site, be it for 10 minutes in his motherโs arms.
I immediately complained but was told that breastfeeding was not forbidden, only bringing a child. Despite countless emails & pointing out this was a clear case of indirect discrimination, nothing has changed. My partner still has to use a nearby restaurant to feed our son. I find this humiliating.
Two months ago my partner was asked to leave the Postdoc centre of the @cam.ac.uk in Eddington where she works because I briefly brought her our baby so she could breastfeed him (in the lobby)! If we want to support women in academia and career equality, we should do better!
In this mini-conference, we are seeking to have a critical debate about land struggles over sovereignty, resources and means of survival. We are inviting folks to submit abstracts (no more than 1000 words) which raise land as the main object of analysis of power in a โpost-globalisation orderโ. By seeking to re-centre the Land Question in contemporary socio and political economic debate and scholarship, we aim to illuminate how land and the power it confers shape institutions, create and mediate conflicts, and determine possibilities for both domination and resistance in an era marked by ecological crisis and geopolitical realignment. We are particularly interested in hearing about research which speaks to one of our key themes: 1. Land conflicts and new imperialisms 2. Extractivism and resource conflicts 3. Digital infrastructure and the material internet 4. Institutions and power in the regulation of land 5. Consequences of urban and rural land concentration 6. Land rent and heterodox economics
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf my co-organisers, I am writing to invite abstract submissions for the โRe-centring land conflicts in the post-globalisation orderโ mini-conference (MC11) as part of the SASE 2026 Conference in Bordeaux (1-3 July).

@rte.ie - do you have any day you can share about this?
I think the key issue here is "whose" interests is implicity alluded to? His, or pehaps the Telegraph's readership, but surely not mine. What baffles me is that as a (former) historian he knows his conception of the Nation is only one of many. Genuine lack of self awareness or editorial strategy?
@ebu.ch - since you say on your website you favour #transparency, is it possible to get a detailed breakdown of the absolute number of votes received for each entry in each country, and the average number of votes per entry per unique mobile number in each country?
@ebu.ch - can I check this is correct?
Picking one coutry at random; Ireland had c.268,000 viewers for #eurovision final. Say 10% of them voted, 670 SIM cards (x20 votes) would do to get 50% of the votes costing **โฌ1440** (2โฌ/SIM and 0.15โฌ/text). Not hard to imagine a country manipulating the result
