I think we need to celebrate the death of Sora a bit more. This is a technology that, just MONTHS AGO, we were being told was going to literally destroy Hollywood and Disney was going to give them a BILLION DOLLARS and NONE OF THAT EVEN REMOTELY HAPPENED
"When does use of these things go beyond being a helpful tool to being a danger to who we are?" There are uses that can help with science, disabilities, neurodivergence, etc. Where do we draw the line from helpful use to overuse? Clearly the tech companies alone aren't going to define it properly.
Thank you for weighing in with why the overuse of "AI" as tech companies are pushing it on us is bad in every way. I have zero disagreement with any of that. The genie is out of the bottle though, so saying it just shouldn't exist in any form doesn't seem like an answer for the long term.
Love the billboards and signage everywhere in CoH. Some of the private serves have added even more IIRC. I've made a dozen or so of my own that may or may not see the light of day at some point on one server or another (if they haven't already -- I can't remember tbh)
Oooof. I literally just posted a full thread about my own conflicted use of AI before I saw all of this. This goes a wee bit too far IMO. Good to see her still out there, but not a fan of using AI to that extent for any project...
We're at a very strange point in history for a variety of reasons (& I'm tired of living in interesting times), so the question becomes, where do we draw the line? When does use of these things go beyond being a helpful tool to being a danger to who we are? I'll be thinking on this for a while.
On the other hand, I'm also actively working to build my own version of JARVIS to help with automations & minor tasks around my own home in some way. I use AI to organize my ADHD brain's ideas for building our home network & servers as it grows to fill our needs. So I'm also not against it entirely.
That AI output shouldn't replace the real creative and intellectual output of people though, especially when it's for profit. And it shouldn't be "thinking" for us either. I see too many examples of people letting LLMs do the thinking for them. No good comes of that.
As an artist, writer, & creator myself I have my own feelings about AI output. It's not art & it shouldn't be viewed as an amazing achievement by the person using it. I feel like it can have its place at times, for privately working out ideas individually ahead of real work to be done by real people
I just deleted a post that I wasn't sure would be taken the way I'd want. It was an image I'd generated via AI from screenshots of a story & zone idea I'd made as an AE arc to add some Norse mythology to City Of Heroes.
