Good mix of feeder chinook and mature coho from earlier in the week. They don't get much tastier.

Crabbing was terrible in August this year, so it's exciting to see them back in the traps this month. Released a dozen large wild coho yesterday to go with a few kept hatchery fish.

Pick one up here and one up there to build a box full of silver.

September sunsets on the water are always a pleasure.

Sept. 15

Fishing for Chinook and Coho has been excellent in local waters over the last week as the fish have started staging near their home rivers.

We don't have to travel far from the marina to get into the salmon action, and crabbing has really picked up again so the traps are dropped daily.

The morning bite has been great all week.

The girls were catching so many fish they even let Dad get in on the action.

Tasty local coho have been keeping us busy while we wait on the pulses of returning chinook salmon. Hasn't been boring out there, that's for sure.

Sept4

Always enjoy fall fishing here on the Sunshine Coast.

With the opening of all the areas in the Salish Sea, the packs of city boats are no longer on our fishing grounds, and the migrating fish come through in steady waves as they near their home rivers.

August 27

Late Aug and Sept. is our time to shine for big fall chinook in the lower Georgia Straight.

One thing I've learned over the years is that The Ladies Can Fish!
Their patience and determination usually result in success with a fish in hand.
That's certainly how this week has played out.

Some dark and rainy August days lately. Bit unusual, but didn't slow the fishing down any.

Some Corsicans on holiday stopped by to catch their first ever salmon. C'est Bon!

Rode out a stiff NW breeze by keeping our backs to the wind and rods in the water today.

Pretty much the only lures I've used all summer. (Tho a big ugly green hootchie has been putting in some good work as of late as well.) Put fresh hooks on em every few days and get em down there.

Aug 22

A few sockeye thrown into the mix to go with the coho, chinook and pinks has kept it fun and productive out there this month.
Always interesting when 4 of the 5 types of Pacific salmon are in our local waters.

2 chinook a day retention opens in all local areas on Sept.1.

Can't even tell it's blowing 25kn+ behind that point... Beauty day at Seymour Bay.

3 types of salmon and a few crab always makes for a fun day and a great feast afterwards.

Had a great day with some first-time salmon fishers from Europe.

Had to pull out the wheelbarrow to get the salmon to the cleaning station yesterday.

Aug 12

The Invasion Of The Pinks is fully underway, but we have been finding coho and chinook as well over the last week.

High Temps have brought high winds, so getting into the Straight has been tricky some days and we have had to hide behind some islands in Howe Sound to get on the fish.

Always enjoy getting some fellow prairie walleye anglers into their first salmon. Stayed out a bit longer waiting for the Chinook bite to come on and it paid off with 2 hook ups to end the morning.

August 5

Big numbers of Pink Salmon have started moving into the Salish Sea this week, providing great action on the rods, but also making us work harder to find the schools of Coho.
We found a few yesterday as well as a cpl hard charging Chinook.

Gotta go deep in early August, 160'-200' paid off.

This is exactly how many other boats I like to see fishing around me this time of year. Unless there is a big school of Pinks or Coho traveling through an area it certainly lowers your odds of hooking up if there are 30 other boats to compete with.

Working the ledges around the camp made it happen for us a few times over the last week.

Coho from today had a big chunk missing from it's gill plate on one side. Not sure what would cause that to happen, never seen it before

August 3

Bit of a mixed bag over the last week, which is not unusual for early Aug.

Found success by staying far away from the pack of boats fishing Gower Pt. most days, but we had to work for em with frequent gear checks and depth changes being essential.
Gotta Always Be Fishing,that's for sure.

ABF loves fishing with the locals! Good people, good tunes and good fishing=a great day on the water every time.

Fun weekend chasing salmon at Gower Pt.

We stayed away from the pack of city boats on Saturday and found a couple nice chinook and some hatchery coho to go with the 1st pink salmon brought in of the summer.

The wind kept the fleet away on Sunday and we were able to find a few nice fish.

Found em down deep. Lost a few nice ones in the rollers but did really well to get these into the net.

It's always nice when YOU are the lucky charm.

A beauty summer morning at Gower Point is hard to beat.

Got 1 chinook on a spoon down in the mud before hooking 5 little fingerlings in a row. Switched to a plug and later a hootchie to keep the little ones off and had steady coho action, but no more chinooks.

After getting pushed off the water by a big blow from the SE yesterday, we were feeling pretty motivated to hook some fish this morning.

Gower Pt. produced on the ebb with a chinook & some coho, and then we were able to find a few more coho along the beaches on the big flood tide.

We had 3 goals today; Have fun, catch fish, and NOT get any blood on that white sweater! Check, Check, Checkity.

Fished the beaches of Roberts Creek between tides yesterday morning.

Good skills on the rods made for a fun and successful trip with some hatchery marked coho and a nice chinook finding the net.

White Hootchies were the ticket today, spoons only caught little shakers so we benched em.

Fun day where we landed every hatchery coho we hooked and lost only wild fish...as usual.

Fishing the neap tide can be a soul crushing experience some days, but we were on the bait and found coho throughout the afternoon.

Going to focus on fishing the low tides in the mornings this coming week, we'll see what swims our way as we head the big tide swings of the new moon.

July 16.

We were able to hook some chinook to go with nice sized coho on the high tide when the ripping high winds finally died down this am.

The local fleet was mostly hooking chinook in the 10-15lb range-tho there were some bigger fish outside the 80cm slot limit that were released as well.

When the water is clear the bait is often right on the bottom, and your gear should be too as that's where the fish are. Found them as deep as 120' on the weekend. Whipping a hootchie through here at 40' isn't gonna do much for you

With dozens of boats running gear through the fishing grounds sometimes switching to a smaller profile can pay off quickly. Salmon can get spooked with all the flashers being dragged through the zone, but they still gotta eat.

July 7

Smaller schools of coho combined with heavy fishing pressure meant we had to put in some work to get rewarded over the last few days.

Tons of bait in the area so we can expect waves of fresh fish to roll in with the full moon tides this week.

In the meantime, gotta work those bait balls...

Spent a great day in Howe Sound with some wonderful international guests.

Kept a cpl hatchery coho and released some chinook at the Farm and Twin.

While everyone caught their first ever salmon, some days are more about good company and beautiful scenery than catching every fish.

Great rod skills got rewarded this morning.

Really good ratio of hatchery fish allowed us to tub out in 3 hours this morning. I even got to reel a couple in for a 5 angler limit. Frenzy

There are so many fish around right now that you will catch them on whatever gear combo's you like pretty much. These flashy hootchies set ups are tough to beat with the sun shining. Running em at 20'-40'.

A Giant Pink Seastar tried slowing down our crabbing by wrapping itself around the bait cage in one of my traps.

Kicked off the start of summer with the Never Give Up Crew this weekend.

We teamed up with Shallow Bob on Saturday to fill the wheelbarrow, then got lucky on Sunday morning with 7 out of 15 fish caught being keeper hatchery marked coho.
Action was fast and furious.

Had a great Fathers Day session with Taylor and his dad on Sunday. Wasn't relaxing but sure was fun as they reeled in 25+ coho and a few chinook in a 4 hour session.

Average size of the coho increased on Monday for some great guests from Washington State. We released close to 20 wild fish before we found a school of hatchery marked coho which quickly filled the tub.

Coho are here in big numbers, with a good ratio of keeper hatchery marked/wild fish being caught.

Finding these fish in shallow water (50'-80') tight to the beaches on the incoming tide and out in a bit deeper water on the ebbing tides.

Huge schools of mature herring along the beaches really bring in the feeding salmon.

Wind finally died down so we could get out there and hook some coho.

Hatchery fish were mostly in the 55cm class, with a few bigger ones in the mix today.

Numbers, and size will continue to grow as the waves of fish travel through our waters this summer and fall.

Hearing great reports of large schools of coho coming down the Georgia Straight, so looks like we'll be filling wheelbarrows with tasty hatchery marked fish again this summer.

Lots of chinook action on the rods over the last week with a few bigger migratory fish in the mix with our local feeders.
Looking forward to June with the opening for hatchery coho retention as well as the chance to hook into some trophy sized Kings as they pass through our local waters.

The last day of the winter chinook season was a good one with calm seas, warm sunshine and decent action on the rods at Gower Point.

Always disappointed to see the end of winter fishing, but definitely excited to see what the tides will bring our way this spring and summer.

Winter chinook fishing continues to be lights out all along the Sunshine Coast with large Schools of mostly hatchery fish in the 8-14b range feeding on all the herring and anchovies that are present in our waters.
They been biting rain or shine.

It's only your first time once boys!
These guys landed close to 20 fish for their 1st time fishing the salt water-never lost a fish all day.

Action was mostly on the dbl glow black blade with a skinny g spoon at 150'.

Some first time salmon fishers from Vancouver braved the cold rain and winds for a fun day on the water.
Released a bunch of unders and lost a cpl nice ones at the boat before landing this 63cm chinook to go with 15 fat crab for dinner.

Gower Point.

We released a couple barely legals and some just unders hoping to hook up with something a bit bigger this morning.
Double header at the tide change netted a 67cm and a 77cm for us to end the day.

Found em down in the basement at 180' & 220'.

Beauty morning for a solo session at Gower Point.
Handful of undersized released, 1 lost screamer and a couple of hatchery reds kept.
Action was down at 130'-200' on chartreuse glow gear.
