I think it's because "I" is a rare single letter english word and looks strange when it's followed by another word starting with a capital I, like in the "I INTEND" example above. A vital part of this game would be managing the captain's expectations as well - the "I can do it in eight hours" / "You've got two" dynamic. Giving accurate estimates to the captain will make the game impossible. You have to be hypercompetent, but the captain can't realize how competent you are.
