1. In a landmark ruling, the Montana Supreme Court has declared that the constitution, one of the most progressive in the nation, entirely protects transgender people.
The ruling is even insulated from SCOTUS decisions, due to how state constitutions work.

I am so happy for you and the people of Hungary, both for the positive changes that are sure to come and those that folks are hopeful for.
Also, it's exciting to hear news of a potential shift in LGBTQ-related policy coming out of Magyar's administration. Can you share what was said?
Orbán's loses! What a wonderful day for Hungary, and also for the European Union, where Orbán has long used his veto power to protect Putin & stymie Europe.
For all its bluster, authoritarianism is a brittle ideology when the people come together. Here's hoping we kick its ass here in the US too!
NASA women save stars. 🫶🏻💫
Watching my wife fall in love with birding after our first trip to Maclay flats has been such a joy.
I said it in our vows, but one of my favorite things is watching all the different ways she falls in love with the world 💕
The fact that naval warfare exists will not diminish my love of the ocean. Nor will the words "space force" diminish my love for the stars.
I have fought capitalism here on earth, and I will fight it on the moon if I have to, but by god I will not stop reaching for the stars.
Words change meaning over time, and the term "luddite" today is commonly used to mean anti-technology. That's both its colloquial use, and in various philosophical circles (particularly in fringe environmentalist philosophies).
Etymology is not and should not be a purity test.
There we are, voting together against space force nonsense:
well, it's very specifically anti-science nonsense. not only does space science always end up with random shit that can be used to improve life on earth, NASA is really not that fucking expensive.
do you know how many space agencies you can fund with one week of iran war.
I am familiar with the great filter theory in response to Fermi's paradox. I am not sure I buy into it, and even if I did, I believe that wiser souls will prevail and we will make it to the stars.

To the people claiming space travel & solving issues on earth are mutually exclusive:
We can do both. We cand fund science, space travel, etc. AND programs to improve the quality & sustainability of life here on earth.
And pretending otherwise isn't clever or enlightened, it's luddite nonsense.
miss me with that space doomerism
God the Artemis II mission has me so hopeful for the future.
I can't wait til we get a base on the moon, on mars. Til we build not just research stations, but homes. For the first steps of an interplanetary species!
It's all waiting for us, if we can survive the darker impulses of the present.
We can't live there YET.
I have no doubts that one day humans will live on both the moon and mars, and as a species we will overcome the hurdles that as of now seem insurmountable.
I can't shake the feeling that ultimately, these "observations without scientific value" are the end goal.
Like we're not going to the moon b/c we hope to one day catalogue the universe. We want to LIVE throughout the universe. And that includes falling in love with as-of-yet untold observations.
Incredible video by @hankgreen.bsky.social on the Artemis II photos.
The eclipse photo had me in tears. The crew saying the observation "won't be of any scientific value" yet being called to document it. And Houston ID'ing mars as "the future of where we're going"

Her nest is on the banks of the Clark Fork river, and right on the edge of Hellgate Canyon.
The camera is just set up looking towards a parking lot. She's got a hell of a living space
Oooo Iris has a friend!
Love the Missoula Iris bird cam, our favorite osprey!
Donald Trump must be removed from office for threatening war crimes and genocide.
Speaker Johnson: bring the House back into session.
Invoking the 25th Amendment and impeachment must be on the table, but Congress should also move on a War Powers resolution to stop Trump.
I'm not sure how you can be against removing this man from office right now. What will it take? A nuke being dropped? It's too late then. The purpose of impeachment and the 25th Amendment is to prevent that type of thing from happening, not just to react to it.
She's believed to be 28-29 if I recall.
Update: after her long trip back to Missoula, Iris is treating herself to a little snack
Bonus fun fact: Iris is one of the oldest living Osprey in the world!
Iris the Osprey has returned! 🙌
Our queen roosts in Missoula once more 👑
Add it to the pile of impeachable & prison-worthy offenses.
Also, it's important to remember that in addition to being a genocidal war crime enthusiast, Trump is also a pedophile who definitely raped kids. And no war, no rambling late night tirades, will make us forget him and his buddy Epstein.
I don't normally do bird photography, but Zooey wanted to take me to this beautiful bird sanctuary area, and... I got some good ones! A robin, a tagged red-tail hawk, a mallard in flight, and a the cutest squirrel nomming a pinecone.
Update: my wonderful, oh-so-outdoorsy wife ( @erininthemorning.com ) was not content with our mere 2-mile birdwatching hike, so we just wrapped up another 6 miles in the rattlesnake wilderness area.
8 miles of hiking after a full day of snowboarding yesterday. I'm gonna sleep like a baby tonight.
We need to get you out here! Come escape into nature with me
