It seems that this 👇 is a pretty clear view of the #Myanmar #earthquake rupture in the field.

Photo, taken from a Youtube video shot near Sagaing, shows a small irrigation canal shifted to the right by several meters because of coseismic fault motion. ⚒️ 🧪

Trump Has Cut Science Funding to Its Lowest Level in Decades (Gift Article) The lag in funding extends far beyond D.E.I. initiatives, affecting almost every area of science: chemistry, computing, engineering, materials and more.

NSF Physics was cut by 85%, basically wiping out most of its capacity for supporting research.

NSF Astronomy was cut by 53%

Undergrad education was cut by 71% and research on learning by 79%

Graduate education was cut by 100% to ZERO.

If you have been wondering how strike-slip faults evolve in the presence of pre-existing weaknesses, wonder no more. We got you!
Yup, the early slip along the weaknesses increase strike-slip fault roughness, just like you thought.

A victory for the federal scientific workforce! We could not stand by while this irreparable harm continues at NSF, NOAA and all our scientific agencies.

TODAY the judge granted our request to temporarily HALT the mass firings at federal agencies under Trump’s Executive Order.

You guys, a conclave of old cardinals can decide on a POPE faster than an academic search committee can decide on the four people we're bringing to campus for an assistant professor search.

If you want any more indication that the ultra wealthy are parasites just look at how many programs they could save and are choosing not to. Bill Gates could literally continue to fund all cancelled NIH and NSF programs for at least a year and still be a billionaire.

I am one of these NSF postdocs. NSF has frozen everyone’s access to their salaries and research stipends (that were already awarded) with no information about when they might be expected to be unfrozen. It still appears like we are expected to continue doing our work though.

It’s official: all funding requests made on Tuesday by postdocs for their salaries have been unilaterally rejected by NSF.

Reference object for CT scans of drill cores. A transparent tube was a transparent cap at the near end, and a blue cap at the far end. The top is labeled CT-A (anterior). The number 0 appears in the top, too, in addition to a label that says 'working.' Inside the tube are several mutually- perpendicular red lines with arrows pointing on them.

One of the ways of characterizing the hard-won #JTRACK drill core is to CT-scan it. Faults + fractures revealed by this CT-scan need to have their orientation documented. But it's easy to lose one's sense of direction inside a digital cylinder. That's what this reference is for. ⚒️🌊 #IODP #exp405
