Just got the news about Nick Brendon today. In the 2010s, Nick was my writing partner and my friend. He was a powerhouse of ideas and a tireless machine of a comedy writer. There’s been a dull ache in my heart for a long time that we parted ways both as writers and friends. It was my doing and I did it for the right reasons, but I always held hope that we would reunite. I don’t want to post one of my photos of him because that feels… off, somehow. I’ve always been extremely private about that. So here is one of my most cherished memories of our friendship — this is in his backyard in Venice, where we often wrote together. It’s my puppy’s first birthday and he opened the door to greet her with a pink bone cake and an exuberantly performed song, holding her up in the air. This is the kind, funny, huge-hearted Nick I knew. Rest in peace, friend. The world misses you already.
