"Stop chewing on your ass!"

Things I've said to my dog that I can't be sure I didn't also say to my young children at some point.

Watching lots of police TV shows.

In real life, do cops really yell "Stop, Police!" when they're a half a block away, alerting an otherwise unaware suspect and making them run through a crowd of innocent people unnecessarily?

Take Action - Rainbow Railroad

My birthday is in a few weeks so it's time to kick off my annual fundraiser. ❤️

Around the world, #LGBTQI+ people face violence and oppression simply because of who they love or who they are.

#RainbowRailroad helps them get to safety.

If you donate LMK!

Rewatching eps of Face/Off (the makeup show) & it's both entertaining & underwhelming. But what irritates me most is how neither the contestants or the pros know how evolution works. "He had bat wings, but because of evolution they moved to his back so his arms would be free to fight." smh

Guy on TV: Look at the seagulls!

Me: What an idiot. Those are penguins.

(They were pelicans.)

If the world has you needing a TV show that celebrates lovely, diverse, creative people cheering each other on and applauding one another's successes I can't recommend the Great Pottery Throwdown highly enough. Proof life is not a competition. #PotteryThrow

Writing Screenplay Description With Your Own Personal Style & Voice Screenwriter Chip Street offers some great advice on how to find your own voice when writing screenplays.

You can read the article at Movie Outline here:

...if that's first person, great. Third person, great. Something else, great.

Find whatever narrative POV that serves your story, your MC, and your reader.

"Think about yourself at your party-schmoozing best — when you’re really 'on', and you’re engaging people with a great tale. Find that voice, find that fun, interesting, succinct storyteller… and let her tell your story."

For fiction, that means:

Seems there's drama around fiction narrative and pov...

I wrote an article on writing narration years ago. It's on screenwriting but I think it applies to fiction too.

It says in part:

Struggling to lose 30 pounds. Have tried:

- Not eating delicious bread or cereal
- Eating everything
- Counting the many many calories
- Leaving exercise DVDs in their cases
- Spending money on pants that are too small
- Storing laundry on the rowing machine

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

The Masterpiece (Oxford World's Classics) is the tragic story of Claude Lantier, an ambitious and talented young artist who has come from the provinces to conquer Paris but is conquered instead by the flaws of his own genius. Set in the 1860s...

Have I mentioned The Masterpiece lately? Remarkable portrait of the tortured artist....

It is not “a fact” that bad scripts have a good shot at getting made. It is “a fact” that certain tent pole films are destined to get made in spite of a bad script.

"She smacks Steve, after shoving another guy out of the way."

Don't make me do math.

What's that mean?

Don't force me to decipher your prose to figure out what's going on in what order.

10 is simpler than 12-2.

Get me straight to 10.

INT: STEVE'S ROOM NIGHT

Steve FALLS from nowhere directly in his bed inside of his room in the dark--

"inside of his room in the dark"?

Paraphrase of a client's script:

"He begins to look around. There's lots of stuff to see."

In gen, characters should not "begin" or "start to" do things unless it's about to be interrupted.

This is an active visual media. CHARACTERS DO THINGS. SHOW US WHAT THEY SEE.

A paraphrase of a client's script:

"She's dragged away kicking and screaming, just feet away from him like he'd paid extra for front row seats just to see her get kidnapped."

Don't sacrifice your mood or momentum to get in a cute joke or turn of phrase.

So... #Mountainhead (HBO)

Great cast, well written and edited.

And... Is there to shine light on the dangerous selfish sociopathy of techbro billionaires burning the world down with AI and social media and for that, right now, it's just So. Hard. To. Watch.

My boy and I are both reading the same book. He's on page 150. I'm on 87.

ME: You're reading faster than me.

HIM: I don't just read when I'm on the pot.

Okay, I try very hard not to share details of any screenplay I'm reading for a client.

So I'll paraphrase: "The space was the size of a small laundry room."

You really need to choose similes that are universal. I've seen some really big laundry rooms in my day.

I worked with Paul on a horror movie called "The Tripper." He was incredibly accessible and appreciative with his fans. He chatted, took selfies with extras, and just generally was down to earth and charming. So glad I got the chance... was always a fan and still am.
