Still don't have bluesky in my state, so VPNing in. I'd like to blame that extra activation energy as my reason 4 being absent, but the bigger culprit has been grant writing. Several foundation grants (and a couple federal just in case the government ever functions again)

Needs a bit of work, but not bad for our first attempt on the new lightsheet microscope... #FluorescenceFriday (again on a Saturday 🙃)

Upon reflection, I think this is actually from mouse, not rat. This is what I get for using an image file where the filename was coded for blinded counting 🙃

4 panels show different proteins in an inner ear organ that helps us regulate vision and other muscle movements by sensing how our head moves. In yellow is beta spectrin which is localized in the apical surfaces of the sensory cells, in green is myosin 7a which is expressed throughout the cytoplasm of the sensory cells, in magenta is actin which is most prominent in the stereocilia which are very elongated microvilli-like structures, and the 4th panel merges all of the colors together for a more complete image of the crista.

Again a bit late for #FluorescenceFriday, but here's a decent image of anterior crista from a rat inner ear. The long projections in magenta are stereocilia, which, on crista hair cells, are likely the longest microvilli made by any cells in mammals. They help with balance, movement, and vision.

“Why Are We Funding This?” Long-standing myths about “silly science” have contributed to the reckless slashing of government-supported research.

A good article...

I think there's much more to it than scientists needing to communicate better, but these points are definitely valid and so I will try to communicate them by sharing...

What's the Vegas line on Ghislaine Maxwell getting a pardon; then naming a bunch of names (which'll be touted as the Epstein files), and then only drumpf's enemies being named? I know a trifecta should be long odds, but I feel like I should have to pay out at least 5:1 if this doesn't happen.

Superman movie is out. Haven't gotten a chance to see it yet, but it did inspire me to look at some of my collection which is usually hidden in boxes around the house, including this gem...

Thanks for posting. I left a (perhaps too long) comment. I hope a human reads them and they make a difference.

We live in such exciting times! Ai performing surgery! I mean my insurance company's ai will never approve it, but it's so fun to think about.

Got some new books for bedtime reading with the kids. I believe tonight we start book 2 of Fart Quest (having already rapaciously devoured book 1 in this soon to be literary classic series)

I believe it was the video where drumpf was saying he'd like to deport us citizens. I was reposting so I guess the original poster took it down

I really don't know how to respond to this. I think I've written and then deleted at least a dozen posts, but I guess the only thing to say is WTF?
