Spacing Out
I just read a study from Thomas Andrillon’s team at the Institut du Cerveau-Paris Brain Institute on the subject of “mind blanking” ( studyfinds.org/when-mind-goes… ) and it explains that what we sometimes call “spacing out” isn’t just extreme daydreami …substack.com/@austenangel...on

The Designer's Guide to Truth
The promise of artificial intelligence was, in part, a dream of pure objectivity - a way to process information free from human bias, cultural baggage, and emotional interference.

Happy national industrial design day. I’m proud of this one.
Amazon Web Services' integration of DeepSeek-R1 models marks a pivotal moment in enterprise AI, highlighting both significant opportunities and substantial challenges in the evolving AI landscape. It is difficult to convey the magnitude of change this represents.

Fair point, but that is blending the notion of making a living - as an artist - with using an artistic skill set to make a living. That’s a big stretch
A cashier or an accountant probably wouldn’t claim to be making a living as a mathematician.
Why? It is certainly true, because the question is more about the trade-off. Being an artist has always been hard, it is the trade-off’s that are new and disconcerting to the artist because of the landscape of competition, promotion and commerce. These feel alien and perverse to many.
Google’s former CEO, Eric Schmidt, said there should be more intervention for adding guardrails to AI instead of leaving it in the hands of technological leaders like himself.
“Humans will not be able to police AI, but AI systems should be able to police AI.”
Can anybody translate this?
Ride safe, season’s change is in full swing.
Fair point!
DESIGNERS: Your creativity is about to be supercharged. Willow chip means testing millions of design variations simultaneously. The computer does the heavy lifting, you focus on innovation. #Design #Engineering
Tech breakthrough: Google's quantum chip Willow demonstrates unprecedented error reduction in quantum computing. This changes everything we thought possible in computation. #FutureTech question, what areas of life will be most dramatically changed by this breakthrough?
Here's what makes Willow special: significantly reduced errors in quantum operations. This has been the holy grail of quantum computing for decades.
Google just dropped a quantum bomb: Their new Willow chip can do in 5 mins what would take today's fastest supercomputers 10 septillion years. Let that sink in - longer than the universe has existed. #willow #innovation
Motorcyclists: who is riding this rainyseason/winter and what kind of gear are you wearing?
RIP Malcolm Smith.
Is this a viable place for dialog on #AI and #Design?
