I have multiple 6th grade students this year that came from private catholic schools, who earned honor roll, straight As etc and have an identity as good students. But they are all below grade level in reading and writing and are struggling with basic skills like independently summarizing a text.

I’m convinced private schools are selling parents “good students” instead of actually teaching students essential skills.
