Ah yes. That's a great place. I've been in there a couple of times. The locals have a bit of a laugh with me because I cycle there occasionally and it's almost 50 miles as you zig zag through the villages (obviously avoid the A50)

Nice write up. We're heading to Tutbury in May for The Gluten-free beerfestival. The Cross Keys is a great pub but I'm not really familiar with some of the others. Hopefully we'll get to The Junction Stretton and Spread Eagle Rolleston on Dove too
Exterior of three storey little ale house. Ground floor dark exterior and small panel windows. Second and third floors are brick
Winding staircase, fireplace and tables
Light wood bar in little ale house with keg taps and handpulls. A solitary stool in view
Dyson and Sons Leeds clock
Thank you to Marcus (York Soc for Preservation of Beers frm the Wood) for recommending The Little Ale House, Stonegate, York. Multi level v friendly bar. Good selection. I opted for Craven Brew Co Best Yorkshire Bitter. Nice Dyson clock

Brilliant! I'm going to get a folding bike to get to pubs like that. Full size bikes and WirstTranspennine don't mix.
That's a great looking pub. It must've taken some getting to
When you've been travelling round Europe on high speed rail they seem to make sure there's a knackered obsolete train waiting for you just to reacquaint you with useless but expensive infrastructure. Relentless penalty fare announcements for that extra welcoming touch too
Exterior view of golden slipper pub. Half the frontage is brick and half off white rendered and overhanging the pavement
Half a Porter with the handpump behind it
A narrow corridor drinking area with stools
Tables and bench seating with a clock and mirror in view and some union flags
Every visit to The revitalised Golden Slipper, York gets better. Friendly with superb multi room ambience. Nice beer selection including Yorkshire Heart Ghost Porter rich and excellent

If you want to be at the frontier of the craft beer curve you can do a lot worse than get the No 6 York > Osbaldwick / Murton Way for BrewYorks 10th Anniversary beerfest (reduced service on Sundays). Superb beers. Tuju, Finland; Prizm, France; Frontaal Netherlands highlights. A superb beerfestival.
A pint of Kirkstall brewery three swords on the bar with the handpump behind it. A light beer with a foamy head
Corner view of elongated pub The Templar. Three storey high. Green tiled lower floor. Gold relief lettering stating (defunct) Melbourne Ales
Brew Yorks birthday bash is a highlight of April with a select list including Brouwerij Frontaal but there's always time for a pint of Kirkstall Three Swords at The superb Templar before the Leeds > York Train

You need that pre-event pint! I'm heading into Leeds for one at The Templar before carrying on to York for the BrewYork Birthday beerfest which is always excellent
No wonder this Government is struggling and The Greens are surging ahead. They've really blown it, alienating so many of their initial supporters
Great photo!
I worked off Burley St for a while. An odd juxtaposition: hotels, commercial/ telecommunication buildings, apartments, churches & in a void between the inner ring road & suburbs. Probably never recovered from the slum clearances. I like the Highland Laddie but The Templar is the Leeds pub for me
Not bad at all. I really like Barnsley Bitter
That's a bargain!
Behave! I left t*****r because of all the agro π
Expert pouring there. You should be pouring Banked Bass in The Sun Inn Stockton
Nothing worse. I've made a decision to walk a punctured bike a few miles because I didn't want to repair in a cold wet street especially if they're hard to get back on
That's a find!
Fantastic weather!
Nice photos. Those roads just to the West forming the triangle between Leek, Macclesfield and Buxton are similarly spectacular (in good weather) but potentially treacherous for motorcyclists
That's a great pub crawl!
Brilliant! Doesn't look too crowded either
Ouch! Wishing her a speedy recovery. Plenty of physio I would expect. I shattered mine. You wouldn't think they could repair them but they do. I managed Alsagers Bank on a bike (with good gears) yesterday
Yes, that's right. Towpath and loopline or via Bathpool and back on The T & M. I don't think we'd have any cycling infrastructure if it wasn't for Beeching (I'd prefer a LRT there though)
Good article. Nobody cared a few years back. Hats off to The Greens for refusing to get drawn into faux culture wars and throw them under a bus
Yes, definitely. I could have headed down from Audley and called in. All off road on the way back from Rode Heath too. Just have to watch that nasty junction from Crewe over the A500 where they always seem to get a lot of accidents
It definitely gets blustery up there. I had a head wind from Audleyπ Worth braving the chill though. A great place to watch the sun start to drop behind Snowdonia & the Peckforton hills
A view out towards Warrington from the Gresley Arms beer garden. Clear light blue skies. Some houses in the foreground
Half a Holden's Black Country Bitter with the handpump behind it
Exterior view of the Gresley Arms pub. Two storeys high with a central entrance and two bay windows on the ground floor. Light blue skies
A Strava cycle map showing an 18 mile ride with two peaks
The Gresley Arms, Alsagers Bank must have one of the best beer gardens in the area. Good views out towards Wales, Warrington and Widnes this afternoon. That climb isn't getting any easier though. Holden's Bitter otb & excellent. A beer I rarely see. At least the ride back is mainly downhill
Yes definitely, although it does score quite highly in reviews and it's convenient
