Demented cognitive dissonance is strong at Newscorp. 🤣
No... Open.
No... Closed
No... Partially opened, the bit to the left is closed.
No... The bit over there is open as is the bit over the other there.
That happened last night, but seemed to have sorted itself out. It seems to be working OK for the moment.
It's good to know something you have done for years in your own field work finally gets a guernsey in the literature.
Palermo, Sicily for me.
The Sport of Kings? 🤦
Just a misogynistic political enterprise? They could add racism and nationalist religious fundamentalism to the mix and still have room for other bigotries and extremist ideologies.
I have given up waiting on a usable work vehicle (4WD ute - I spend most of my time in remote areas hauling loads). There are too many barriers. Instead I may just park my 4WD and just it for work while I do other driving in a fully EV vehicle. When the 4WD dies, so be it and no replacement.
Heavenly Perfection.
Fixed it.

More grist for the mill. Important implications for the controversies of fire management, logging, and native forest conservation iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1...
I also live in a regional town where homelessness is rife and there is a shirt-load of holiday homes that spend most of the year empty (not to mention too many exorbitantly priced short-term stays, land-banking, property-banking, minimal land releases and a 2 year wait for construction).

WTF? 'Girly Jobs'? Who is that idiot economist?
I cannot believe you quoted a moron who used the term 'girly jobs'.
WTF 'Girly Jobs'. Who is that idiot?
Today marks 78 years since the massacre of Deir Yassin, an atrocity that came to define the Nakba, the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948 to establish the state of Israel on stolen Palestinian land.
I double-dare you not to laugh.
For years I have been pondering on the trope country needs people. I just couldn't understand why people would think country needs them, given people only evolved in the last 6 mil years, and modern humans have only been around for ~ 800k years. Yet life evolved on this plant 4 bil years ago, so humans have only been on this rock for a blink of an eye. The planet has not needed humans previously, nor does it now, nor will it in the future. So why this concept that country need people? Country, the planet did more than OK without people for so very very very long. This rock hosted huge changes in ecosystems, landscapes, and the evolution and extinction of so many species. Then I thought back to how being on country makes me feel. I recall the look on colleague's faces when they are immersed in country. Those wide eyes eager for discovery. The increasing awareness of their surroundings and time passed. The grins of joy at seeing and experiencing what country can give them. The joy at looking at flowers, or seeing kangaroos feeding on native grasslands. The immense joy of just sitting down in silence and taking country in with every breath. It is only then, I came to realise, Country DOES NOT need People, BUT People NEED Country. Not only do people need country for their survival but also for their mental and spiritual well-being. The serenity and perspective country imbues onto the human psyche is wondrous. I am not talking just of 1st Nations who still have that connection to country, but all Australians whose faces light up when immersed in country. Even the most ardent concrete jungle hominid eventually melds into the natural wonder of country. So for the time we are here, it would be nice to keep country healthy and in good repair so it can bring us joy. Let us become more aware of why all the profits one could achieve can never provide the solace and peace of being immersed in the grandeur of country. Country really does not need people, but people need country

Just remember, the 25th results in the replacement of the president with the VP - old "I lied about being a Hillbilly" Vance. The turd sharks in this kakistocracy will just see it go from bad to worse regardless of who replaces whom.
Unfortunately, the people around him are just as bad, if not worse (Vance, Hegseth, Miller, etc).
But I loved the seam work. It was perfection. So geometrically exact. Better than my grandmother.
If this is allowed to happen it will be a disaster, and yet another piece of evidence demonstrating that @albomp.bsky.social and Murray Watt have little regard for the environment and its many priceless values. www.theguardian.com/environment/...
It will only make a corrupt system more corrupt.
I live regionally and still go off-road. I have been waiting for a full EV 4WD vehicle with a min 400km range for a few years now while watching them being sold in other countries.
I'm with you with the full EV push. I think the Chinese manufacturers are more likely to push their full EVs rather than Toyota and others, simply because Aus has been a dumping ground for their vehicles (ICE and otherwise) for decades.
Hybrids continue our dependency on oil and are always much heavier on fuel consumption than manufacturers may claim. It is an interesting time for the transition to EVs in this country. Manufacturers tend to determine the market and they can limit the range and type of vehicles being sold.

At APOPO, rats are life-savers — detecting landmines and helping make land safe again for communities. Today on Mine Awareness Day, we celebrate our #HeroRATs and the incredible impact they have every day.
