Great video covering the history of economic and social history at QUB.

Just shared this with my Y12 economists. Always use 'guns vs butter' when teaching PPFs but never really knew the history behind it all. Now thanks to @wootenomics.bsky.social we do! It also shows the relevance of this discussion today. Have a read... #EconSky

The US economy has added only 260,000 jobs in the past year.

380,000 jobs were added in healthcare.
Most other industries *lost* jobs

Capitalisn’t: Is Everyone Getting Adam Smith Wrong? Georgetown’s Glory Liu argues the popular characterization of Adam Smith is a deliberate historical reconstruction.

Most people associate Adam Smith with free markets and “the invisible hand.”

Georgetown’s Glory Liu argues this narrow interpretation is actually a deliberate historical reconstruction.

We're fucked.
Goldman Sachs estimates that the oil price shock triggered by the war will suppress payroll growth by roughly 10,000 jobs per month through the end of the year.
This could turn into America's worst self-inflicted wound ever.

Thanks to announcements about the movie CAPTURING BIGFOOT, the online #bigfoot community has ramped up its normal in-fighting and disagreeing to nuclear proportions, with Facebook groups having massively increased engagement (this graph from CCTBR). Interesting timing in view of my own writing.

The late great Nick Crafts told me something similar.

Late to the party. Just finished reading it. Very good book might even be able to blend it into my teaching. Reminds me among other things why Walt Rostow was so unpopular in any setting.

Well, what else could we mark on 29 December but the 97th anniversary of the birth of that gift to the world, Bernard Cribbins? (small🧵)
