"One of the strongest attacks on Bill-9 came from Green MLA Rob Botterell. He is literally one of the fathers of freedom of information in B.C. Under the 1990s NDP government, Botterell headed the public service team that put together the existing Act, earning accolades across the country.

A.I. is rapidly reshaping our world, with implications for public safety, labour, arts, climate, and affordability. A people’s assembly uses a collaborative approach to decision-marking, giving the public a voice in this multifaceted issue.

In Question Period, MLA Valeriote asks BC's Minister of State for A.I. to strike a Peoples' Assembly on A.I.

The Heiltsuk have a saying that, ‘We don’t own the land, we just borrow it from our kids.’ So, here’s my challenge to my fellow MLAs this Earth Day: talk to your kids, make it awkward, and get real about what you’re doing to stop global warming.

Boosting the incredible resources on DRIPAfacts.ca! 📝 Share far and wide to combat coordinated misinformation campaigns. DRIPA is the path forward for human rights in BC. Send this to your family, co-workers and friends so we can collectively defend this critical legislation in the coming months.
We hope that the Premier’s decision to stand down DRIPA amendments means his government is finally ready to collaborate with First Nations, as equals. Eby must act on his predecessor John Horgan’s words: ‘Reconciliation is ‘not for wimps.’

The problem isn’t DRIPA. The problem is the government’s failure to implement DRIPA. We provided a constructive plan to resolve tension, increase certainty, and advance DRIPA to the government.

The Government has spent months avoiding and delaying good faith negotiations with First Nations. We hope that they have now realised that the only path forward is active reconciliation, as defined in legislation.

As the only party in the Legislature supporting the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) as written, the BC Greens presented a constructive path forward on its advancement, shared directly with Attorney General Niki Sharma last week.
Our plan:

BC Greens remind Eby reconciliation is “not for wimps,” real work starts now.

After months of cowardice on DRIPA, Premier Eby is doing what he should have done from day one: working with First Nations, cooperatively.
The BC Greens have been the only steady hand on this issue. We’ve said clearly, from the beginning: hands off DRIPA.
there's 28 stories here about Tuesday, from all over the province.
this is a great thing that only CBC could do.
it might shift your thinking about what's happening if you read and listen to all this together.
read everything you can find about April 14. all of it

DRIPA is not a threat to certainty; it is our only path toward it.
A suspension of Indigenous rights would torch nation relations, Horgan’s legacy, and block the real path forward - long overdue good-faith negotiations.
Thanks for having me on, Mo @vancolour.bsky.social! #bcpoli
...BC Hydro must know too, because the electricity lines they’ve been asked to build have far more capacity than Woodfibre currently needs.
How long has the BCNDP known about this scope creep, with more tanker trips, and more pollution than was ever advertised?
#bcpoli @myseatosky.bsky.social
The Federal Energy Minister recently spoke about a potential tripling of WoodfibreLNG exports.
FortisBC seems to have known for longer, because they’ve overbuilt pipeline infrastructure to accommodate more capacity....
Since Woodfibre LNG was first proposed in 2014, communities in Átl'ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound have worried it would be larger, dirtier, and more damaging than this government claimed.
Evidence is mounting that those worries will become reality.

"Every death in this crisis is a policy choice. This province once led the way on harm reduction. Now, it is failing to show the leadership needed to save lives.”
-- @jervaler.bsky.social
political bravery is what's lacking in this government, and that's what this emergency demands
We’ll continue to advocate for evidence-based solutions to this crisis to prevent further loss of life. That means expanding voluntary, community-based treatment, providing regulated pharmaceutical alternatives, and establishing consistent, evidence-based standards of care across the province.
The government declared this an emergency—it’s time they acted like it. More than 18,000 people have died due to the toxic drug supply in the past decade. These numbers represent far more than statistics—each death is a brother, a sister, a parent, a friend or neighbour.
It's been 139 days since BC's Special Committee on Democratic and Electoral Reform recommended a Peoples Assembly. There is overwhelming support for electoral reform in BC.

Once a quiet forest & rail community, Squamish is now one of the fastest growing communities in Canada. Infrastructure must keep up.
The BC NDP announced funding for Long Term Care and Community Housing, but in Budget 2026 they pulled the rug out.

Nonetheless, what I saw yesterday was over a thousand workers doing their best to build a technologically advanced industrial plant and put food on their families’ tables. Thanks to WLNG staff for welcoming me to the site, and for dialogue about the impacts & benefits of this project.
In the spirit of faithfully representing all the people of West Vancouver-Sea to Sky, I made a visit to Woodfibre LNG on Atl’ka7tsem Howe Sound near Squamish. To be clear, my deep concerns about the environmental, economic and human health risks of methane gas extraction and export remain. 1/

The BC Green Caucus gives our full support to the First Nations Leadership Council message today: “A vote to suspend the Declaration Act is a vote against the human rights of Indigenous Peoples in British Columbia.”

BC Green MLA Botterell led the team that wrote BC's original Freedom of Information Act in the 1990s.
Now, the BC NDP's Bill 9 threatens to weaken it.
