Furthermore, as a dyslexic w/o childhood dx, it’s between appalling and offensive to see the fissures in my brain I’ve spent decades building bridges over being forcibly carved into brains that were unbroken grasslands awaiting footpaths produced through repetition, now they need bridges too

The method taught is unhyperbolically exactly how LLMs work and exactly why LLMs are completely incoherent proportional to how far below “critical mass” (the Large in Large Language Model) the training data (or mandatory teacher in this case) is and why they can’t self improve

This might be a basal trait of animalia as most baby animals have been observed to jump several times their body length proportional to how much danger they’re jumping towards

One of my favorite petty things is how San Francisco’s early 2000s parking enforcement vehicles are an enemy in Sonic Adventure 2 based on the developers frequent run-in’s, like being unable to follow the inscrutable parking rules regardless of whether English or Japanese was their first language

One of the ways I asses the progress of someone's "cultural fit" into academia is watching their "mess bitch" code as I affectionately refer to it increase to the point where a developer will straight up not even clock that it's on-screen while presenting to non-developers in leadership

My favorite unintentional tradition of especially academic institution associated websites is the mountains of commented out code - not COMMENTS - commented out code in the "we didn't end up doing it this way but it wasn't meritless and thus might be revisited" way and it's literally fine to do that

The key to good internal software development is what I call ‘the Taco Bell menu’ during meetings - all new solutions should comprise largely of existing components and all new components should have obvious hypothetical uses.

Having ADHD that forces any two thoughts to connect helps…😬

Someone actually said “can’t you just use chatgpt to get that from my [inconsistent thing]”

Bruh we’re literally trying to beg upwards to not eliminate your position and it would legally be fraud to submit untruthful information, do you really want to put on that red shirt

The “a hookup but we” do something that is basically intimate when an introvert shares it is …interesting… to think about how often I’d take another introvert of mutually compatible sexuality (one or both of us not-single and disclosed) to escape a loud thing and special interest somewhere private

A fun thing about getting old is seeing some make an age/experience related mistake you’re personally familiar with.

Less fun, more horrifically awkward, is seeing someone older than you double down on “baby’s first rodeo” level mistakes you personally corrected as inner monologue at half their age

Keira will be angrily snuggling (making 👿 ears at me from my lap) until temperatures improve

xkcd: The General Problem

My advice from 15yrs of internal-use software development - which I learned by year 5 but it’s worth harping on - is it’s usually the right call to build the arbitrary condiment passing system because my 0-15yo crap has had to keep running with drifting requirements over time. m.xkcd.com/974/

I asked a new provider of mine how they like [healthcare system] using the internal shibboleth (which isn’t derogatory, just a disambiguating shorthand that only needs to exist between employees) and upon verifying I work here completely went off about EVERYTHING 🤣

The amount of things I’ve scheduled with great difficulty due to each other seem to also share an affinity for last minute cancelations requiring the whole puzzle to repeat 🙃

I love doing new things in the “boring” baseline languages (C, php, perl, JS, CSS, etc) with zero additional dependencies because not only do you know exactly how far back in time you could’ve done something but it’s so much easier to be talked down from imposter syndrome

I dreamt that something happened with Right to Repair that we called “The Spudging”

A thought: Halo 4 is how to do your own Death Star:

The dogfight is a disaster. The best they can do is blow a tiny hole only fighter crashes its way through.

Comms offline, its pilot takes the warhead to the core on foot and detonates it.

Their survival is a cruel twist of fate.

I love Daima’s opening but I sincerely believe he heard Don’t Stop Believin like in the car as a kid once or something and it lodged itself so deeply in his brain that it became his song that took 10 years to finally let itself out as a finished singular track. But I love it.

Episodes 129-131 of Super (peaking in 130) finally reached a point of Star Wars (opera) style “you can watch this without dialog/subs and follow enough of the story to appreciate it”. This is a popular opinion though 😛

Where it falls down is production not letting silence happen so it becomes as overplayed quite quickly. Still, it’s nice that you can’t supercut across the whole series’ use of a 2:41 battle theme at least a dozen different ways.

Swords meme: the 00’s Bruce Faulconer score for the US DBZ dub (in its non-mangled Cartoon Network release) does have one major improvement over the original Japanese score: there’s more of it. More leitmotifs. The original is like stretching Halo 3’s like 5 theme soundtrack into 300 episodes.

Keira laying on the bed wearing a red and green bow tie on her back which looks more like it’s a bow on a present than a bow in someone’s hair but it works

Keira laying on the bed wearing a red and green bow tie on her back which looks more like it’s a bow on a present than a bow in someone’s hair but it works

Anyway this delicious Christmas flavored baby will absolutely not let you on the bed if you don’t have a collar, harness, or tie no matter how 150% her weight you are

Wife, concerned: “How do you know [the cats] like wearing ties”

They literally treat each other as outsiders when “naked”. I don’t know if it’s because it makes them too quiet (we don’t use collars with bells so it’s just swishing sounds?) or they literally think it’s a tribal mark but it’s real

As someone who’s been here 16 years but started on graduation day I have a lot more older than senior colleagues so I might have “grandpa” vibes to Gen X through Zoomies and perhaps this has some contribution to my “step 1: be nice, step 2: and be real” attitude

Also this is yet another case of I’m finding myself able to twist being a good person into technically acting in my employers best interest bc I’m enabling my colleague(s) to be productive by making them feel marginally less unsafe and yet it’s usually met with “[someone] made me feel worse”

I’m still starting [especially 1on1] meetings with an invitation to have a meltdown, schedule a meltdown for later, or let me know to not bring it up, and I will probably have to continue to until 2029 bc as a white-ass man it especially feels like I should

As a bonus it’s something we could put on a slide without the grossness of using a magical slur. It also fits if you extend “actor” to whenever any of us talk to you because autism masking etc even if 0 of us are officially diagnosed and out (lol)

As a millennial in IT, I enjoyed when we came up with using “muggles” to refer to everyone else but stopped using it because *gestures obviously*

I’ve recently had the idea to instead steal Disney parks’ “Backstage” label for us to keep the magical theming.

“I just wanted to know if I could change the dates since we rescheduled this event”

“Don’t you get it? Those dates’ character widths are set in stone. Yes you can overwrite ‘Tuesday’ with ‘Wednesday’ but the consequences could be dire!”
