Probably gen Z now, neither feminine nor masculine

It's interesting how things change. Over the last 30 years on the Internet I've gone from using (old-style) abbreviations, to everything being lowercase, to using correct spelling, grammar & punctuation in everything.

Someone needs to tell Susie that posts on social media are supposed to be reactionary dross. She'll never get a following posting fascinating, cute etymological tidbits like this.

Wait...

Software engineers also know that managers will treat their estimates as promises. Bad managers demand estimates so they can pass the blame to the programmers when the project fails, which it always does, given a fixed scope and budget.

Nail. On. Head.

I think estimates serve a purpose - as just that - an estimate. The reality is that delivery managers need a rough idea of how long things will take.

But throwing your devs under the bus when they don't hit the estimate exactly is just bad management.

That may be the case today, in the west where EVs aren't that widely used - and those that are have excellent quality control. But it doesn't change the point the video makes about good QC being the only thing stopping them from catching fire.

Combine that with the fact you can't extinguish them, you just have to wait them out, and you can probably kiss goodbye to whatever your car is parked inside or near.

That includes your house.

They are terrifying.

The Surprising Flaws in 18650 Lithium-Ion Batteries YouTube video by Adam Savage’s Tested

If there's one video anyone thinking of buying an EV should watch, it's this:
m.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y23...
EV batteries are made up of hundreds of 18650 cells, and the cheap ones are REALLY REALLY DANGEROUS.

I also recommend looking up EV battery fires. There have been a lot of them in China recently, and they are terrifying. You literally can't put them out.
If your EV battery catches fire in your garage, you're probably going to lose your house. They're that bad.

If you're thinking of buying an EV, watch this m.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y23...

An EV battery pack is made up of hundreds of 18650 cells, and the gap in quality (and risk of fire) between a good one and a bad one is HUGE.

Correct. They are not supposed to be charged inside the garage of a house.

Well, this one, anyway.

This seems crazy to me. This is exactly what the PR process is for, no?
Does this AI-generated code not go through a PR process with a human who understands the business logic?
If not, then that's incredibly short-sighted and a recipe for disaster.

aa.net.uk if you want a privacy-oriented ISP who doesn't subscribe to any of this boomer government's ignorant nonsense.

It makes sense. Even cat 3 systems, which have been rigorously tested for many years, don't enjoy a similar lack of oversight from the crew, for good reason.

I think if the commander opts to keep it enabled without oversight then accountability is on them, personally. But I'm just a layman!

It's engineering at the end of the day, and engineering is about working with your peers to find the best solution (or compromise) to solve a problem.

If you think your solution is always best, well, you're probably not going to be around for long.

Absolutely culture fit should come first. I think this is the case in almost any role, not just software dev.
In software dev, though, there is almost never one 'best' solution to anything. In that setting, nobody wants to work with the walking, talking embodiment of Dunning-Kruger. Humility is key

The great thing about doing this in the 21st Century is it's cheaper than ever. You don't even need to fund militias anymore. You can control the narrative through contacts in journalism and sow disinformation online and - hey presto! - all of a sudden, the Danish people love the US.

Chances are they won't need to go to war. They'll have the CIA install a regime sympathetic to US "globalism." That's what usually happens.

Why attract all the bad PR of being a selfish, obnoxious, warmongering nation when you can get what you need for on the sly for far less outlay.

Chinese domestic EV fires are a common occurrence at this point, so I hope they're using better batteries than they are in their domestic products.

Fucking hell, has she still got a chip on her shoulder about this? Move on for crying out loud. As much as I dislike Maggie and Theresa, at least they didn't dwell on their mistakes.

But it's not like any children can see it Keir, so what are you worried about?!

Right? Those rules you introduced definitely worked, didn't they?

3 months ago 2 0 0 0

Lol Keir Starmer wouldn't stand up to be counted, let alone to Elon Musk

This is political blustering, nothing more.

3 months ago 3 0 0 0

Exactly.

If this was a guy working for Musk doing it using Photoshop, it would be Tesla/SpaceX going to court.

Musk has created a product that provides the service. He is responsible for it.

The economy isn't growing at macro scale and hasn't been for decades.

That said, all this really proves is that people have their heads buried in sensationalist media. The future is usually much more moderate. It's a slow downward spiral.

Seems to me they just want a sensationalist term for the press.

What on Earth are they thinking calling this a "mild zombie apocalypse?"
A zombie apocalypse would mean a collapse of the means of production and the economy as we know it.
So can someone explain how competition and attrition among SMEs is considered a mild form of that?

It doesn't occur to him that the spies in the simile might be spying on the British, or the Australians, or the Canadians, and that nobody outside the US knows, or even cares, what the "world" series is.

I'm still not sure why it's called the world series, whatever it is.

What a bell end.
I especially liked this bit:
"German spies in old movies who, despite their perfect English [don't know] who won the last world series."

I almost always have subtitles turned on when watching telly, and this is one of my pet peeves.

This and when they spell 'arse' as 'ass.' They're different words with their own etymology, America.
