Ah, the other Presque Isle! I grew up(in part) in Presque Isle, Maine. There it is the Presque Isle Stream that flows into the Aroostook River. But probably a similar quantity of mosquitos.
Facts.

I love phish.
Bubbledoodles!
I believe that in order to take some small step forward, the word “bird” should be replaced with “saur” in all common names. Mockingsaur. Secretarysaur. Red-winged blacksaur.
HUMMINGSAUR
Congratulations! I just received my copy!
Not baseball-sized but big enough to do some damage. More and bigger on the north side, I'm told. And it's all quickly moved past us.
Two postdoc fellowships now open at @brown.edu Dept of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences. One in ocean sciences (apply.interfolio.com/183855) and one in any field of geoscience (apply.interfolio.com/183852). Deadline May 1.
Congratulations!
Some simple truths about methane vs. CO2. I've said this before, in various ways, in various peer reviewed papers, but I keep repeating it with variations hoping the message will get through somehow.
(1) CO2 accumulates in the atmosphere. If you introduce a new CO2 emission source into the system
Woah.🤯
Polar bear walking on sea ice.
Family photo when I was seventeen and living in Arctic Alaska, with sign saying: “Danger: Polar Bears! NO vehicles beyond this point! Disturbing the bears near the point may cause them to return to Barrow and the dump area. PLEASE HELP REDUCE THE CHANCE OF HUMAN INJURY!”
Polar. No competition.

My dog has a broken toe and is in a splint and can even navigate stairs better than that.

Sounds pretty nice… No ppt, no online learning management systems…
No, I haven’t been there. But I know of the tragic story… Did you see any of the sheep bones when you visited?
Thanks Ray! I studied at Haskolí Íslands for a semester in 2002 and fell in love with Iceland. I’ll never forget our geology dept trip to Landmannalaugar, and the obsidian there. Or climbing Hvannadalshnúkur! Páll Einarsson (Lamont alum!) helped to inspire me to pursue a career in geoscience.
Thanks Jim! Although not featured in the film, several of the locations in the film were inhabited by Pinguicula vulgaris (butterworts)!
Check out this video documenting our recent ‘Sea-to-Sky Experience’ course trip to Iceland! youtu.be/Xm2DFHRBzMg?...

Would be fun to see the data centers for X monkey-wrenched.
I worry that many of them do get it, but that they are afraid. ‘Fear is the mind killer’.
Given Trump’s Easter threats to carry out new war crimes in Iran, we should think one or two steps ahead about a coup attempt connected to the war. And then deter it. (1/17)
U.S. Blues is playing on In Tune with Sara Willis on Maine Public Radio. Feels relevant.
Photograph of Earth from the Artemis II spacecraft. The atmosphere is visible as a thin envelope around the perimeter of the Earth, with auroras visible in the top right and bottom left.
Excellent view of Earth’s atmosphere in this photograph taken by Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman. Amazing what that thin envelope of gases has meant for Earth’s habitability.
