Don't know if it's the *most* useless video game thing I know, but naming sublevels/layers building things for Mass Effect 3, I named the ones for the maintenance tunnels in the Geth Dreadnought mission "gethries" as a reference to Star Trek's Jefferies tubes.

Played Super Mario on the NES at a neighbor when I was... 5? Started drawing Super Mario levels on paper and "playing through them" in my head. That interest in building things stayed (not realizing until much later you could actually do it as a job) and now I'm somehow 20 years into a career.

Sorry, I meant storyboarding those pcap scenes before shoot is what I meant and definitely did not write.

I think it depends on what the yardstick is for. Big pcap scene? Sure, go with scratch if possible, robovoice won't give you the right feel. Ambient dialog while traversing from A to B in gameplay? Robovoice is a useful/cheaper/reliable enough tool to pace out dialog across distance.

Growing up with games and a fascination with building things, did a lot of hobbyist level design as a kid/teenager. While figuring out what post-secondary schooling/career to pursue a level designer at a small company reached out about my hobbyist levels. Haven't looked back.
