As awesome as it is to have physical ways to express your identity, you don’t need them to be who you are. Just being you is enough. That’s what the fandom is all about, at least for me.

The joy of going to cons for me isn’t just the fancy fursuits, it’s knowing that the vast majority of people there are furries in their hearts and minds. To have friends that look at me and see a bear rather than a human. That’s comforting and meaningful to me, whether in person or here online. 2/3

To add to this: I love art, cons, vtubers and fursuits as much as the next furball, but the main draw of furry for me is being surrounded by folks like me. Even if you have no art and your fursona exists solely in your head, you merely *identifying* as furry means something. 1/3

my boomer 3am take that nobody asked for is that furry and luxury are contradicting concepts. do not confuse expressing who you are for flaunting what you own or you lose the entire spirit of the fandom. authenticity has no price tag
