My beloved Turkey Vulture....
Great episode! And I was thrilled to hear at least one of your team was watching and enjoying the Winter Olympics π.
This past August my team and I put on a conference for people doing amazing things, which was around the corner from this statue. This photo fills my heart. Thanks.
Very sad news. He was a hero, and his amazing work will live on.
I've tried to convince my partner of the same thing for turkey vulture to no avail.
Best game ever. And I swear, my partner always ends up with a nuthatch....
In English we know it as βCarol of the Bells,β but the melody arises from a Ukrainian folk tradition of songs welcoming the new year and summoning the forces of nature to meet human labor and bring prosperity.
Do listen.

I'm so proud of my senator. You go Mark.
I have to admit I like the UK version. But I have my US version pre-ordered from my local book store and I'm sure I'll love it π
I totally need to get one of those Shari! π€£
What a wonderful day. Over 2,500 people came out in my mountain town. I couldn't believe how far we stretched along the busiest street, and even way around the corner. And the cars going by honked, waved, gave us thumbs up. Just lovely and inspiring.
For some time I've read this book every year, following along as the months unfold. Today I read the Dusk Chorus observation. Just what I needed. Thanks as always for the reminder Monty.
Pre-ordered my copy from my awesome local bookstore. I have no idea how I'm going to wait that long. Thanks for writing this, and thanks for all you do.
Our local osprey pair here in Flagstaff, Arizona, arrived a few days ago. Made my heart soar to watch them.
Shredded potatoes, leek, and I diced up some good bacon. The trick was really letting the potatoes drain, keeping the starch, and making sure I got a consistent crust throughout. It actually ended up being delicious! I hope my seed starts do as well π€£
Son of a gun. My first attempt at Dibbleabbes might just be a success. And the best part isn't that I'm getting a decent crust. It's my partner doesn't care I have garden dirt under my nails.
Today I met with my Tribal Waste & Response Steering Committee. I can't tell you how uplifting it is, even virtually, to spend time with such an amazing group of people in such trying times. Gosh do I love and admire them.
I want to share this in case you missed it. Read the New Yorker article when you can. I live in the midst of a huge Ponderosa Pine forest and ALL the USFS staff keep us safe.
βMy community has been gutted. The trail crew, wilderness crew, timber crew. We truly care for this resource weβve been protecting. You have to be standing there to understand the beauty of it & how delicate it is.β

Finally. A decent snowfall. And blooming hyacinth. A Hermit Thrush came to our water dish, and the Juncos and nuthatches were excited about the nuts and seeds. After a week of defending community and fighting chaos, this feels wonderful.
I so needed that, as did my partner, after our day today fighting the good fight. It reminded us of our dear Nemo. And made us smile. Thanks for this.

Nine days and my wonderful local bookstore. It's an embarrassment of riches. We finally have some moisture bearing clouds we so desperately need. No planetary parade for me. Time to pick tonight's book and pour a glass of mead.
Takk, Norway. π³π΄
I just stopped by my local bookstore and rushed in saying "Riley Black has a new book!" They smiled and pointed it out, right up front of the shop. Can't wait to dive into this one.
Well, my understanding is that when you see this many ravens together they are usually juveniles. Ravens hang like bored teens, doing the same thing. I think this is the raven version of cruising π As adults they stick with their mates and close friends. Crows on the other hand remain more social.
Got my special order of your book the other day. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, actions, and stubborn optimism with us!
Mental break at Wupatki, one of my favorite places. Fought the good fight all last week, and needed some open spaces and the quiet of the high desert before diving in again π
