If we examine the landscape of c-sci today, it appears to be largely the same, except theories that actually address consciousness are considered pseudoscience.
“It is common to see a paper on consciousness begin with... the mystery of consciousness... the topic is clearly the hard problem... in the second half of the paper,... the author’s own theory is outlined... this theory is [one] of reportability, of introspective access, or whatever.”

from what i’ve seen, it typically refers to a specific subfield, centered around DMF/Hopf/Wilsan-Cowan/Stefanescu-Jirsa/etc models of whole-brain dynamics
the idea being for conditions like epilepsy/coma, in-silico “surgeries” can be done as proof-of-concept
