When I was asked to deliver the Hughes report it wasn’t a question of whether compensation should be given, it was a question of how it would be given to patients harmed by pelvic mess and sodium valproate. We need urgent government action now to address this injustice. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
"My message to Government a year ago was 'Get on with it!" My message today is - 'Seriously?!"
England's Patient Safety Commissioner @pscommissioner.bsky.social tells me it's "disgraceful" that the Govt has yet to respond to a two year old report, urging compensation for medical scandal victims:

On this anniversary I wrote a letter to Minister Ahmed, formally to exercise the powers under the Medicines and Medical Devices Act 2021 (Sch 1, para 3), to request information for the purposes of carrying out my core duties. 2/4
Friday 31 October 2025 marked the second anniversary of the Ministerial Advice I made to the DHSC on options for redress for those harmed by valproate and pelvic mesh. 1/4
As this anniversary approaches, I urge the Government to respond, and encourage parliamentarians to continue pressing for action for those who have waited far too long. #PatientSafety #Valproate #PelvicMesh #Redress #HughesReport #PatientVoice #RedressNow 4/4
Despite ongoing engagement, I still await a formal Government response. The recommendations are practical, proportionate, and deliverable, and would provide support to those who need it most. 3/4
I continue to hear from patients and families whose lives have been irreversibly changed, and the need for fair, timely redress remains urgent. 2/4
