Hungary election: Orbán has been defeated – but will Orbánism survive? Péter Magyar and his Tisza party have won a landslide victory, ending 16 years of Viktor Orbán’s rule. But to what extent voters have also rejected Orbán’s model remains to be seen.

Magyar’s mandate is undoubtedly strong, but it is not limitless. He now has room to move on corruption, judicial independence, relations with Brussels and the tone of foreign policy. But even a two-thirds majority does not make Hungary a blank slate.

Europe needs a doctrine to halt Putin’s expansionist ambitions The Russian president’s specious justifications for the war in Ukraine mean he won’t stop there. But time is running out for Europe to formulate a defence strategy, writes Gabrielius Landsbergis.

"The West has drip-fed support to Ukraine, but the goal has remained obscure", argues @glandsbergis.bsky.social, the former Foreign Minister of Lithuania.

This framing of 'the EU has never done multiple speed Europe' seems like a product of way too short institutional memory.

Since the 1980s, major EU integration often happened in avantgarde groups, be it the Euro, Schengen, EU Patent, EU Public Prosecutor. The real change is a different one.

Who owns Greenland? Denmark’s claim is unimpeachable. In the 1951 Defense of Greenland Agreement with Denmark, the US unambiguously recognizes ‘the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark’ over Greenland.

While Denmark is no match for the US in military terms, it does hold legal title to Greenland, along with the right to the self-determination of the local population.
