Euston station is getting a Greggs

As I understand it, it will run at vmax 320 anyway, it will only run to 360 to make up time. As such the energy and maintenance costs should be small, after construction anyway

BBC journalists have been banned from describing the kidnapped Venezuelan leader as having been kidnapped.

The BBC News Editor has sent this to BBC journalists.

Ok. So. They anonymised the sheep.

This is from six months ago. That's how "unexpected" the Walliams news is.

Milton Keynes needs a magic roundabout

(One of my hot takes is that MK doesn’t have enough roundabouts, in the city centre at least)

I was looking forward to eventually being able to get from Bucks to Newcastle very quickly via Birmingham Interchange - instead every time I head up it’s via London. Eventually via Manchester may become a faster option but then lack of investment in the castlefield corridor means a poor connection

It would also be bloody useful to have high speed, high capacity services between Leeds and Birmingham - it wasn’t just about London but what we’ve been left with sure is London centric.

I saw a comment earlier today moaning how the keyboard volume on iOS cranks up with a notification…and I was like, oh, I forgot the keyboard could even make sound

Well, they were commonly that long until the B23 stock has been delayed that long the older stock is having availability issues!

If you’re on a 3 car train (or 6, depending on how you count) you potentially wouldn’t notice them as they’re in another part of the train

You…can’t see the tracks physically moving throughout the entire video? Because that system can’t do what the AI hallucinated because it’s physically impossible for a monorail or maglev. Of course, the AI cannot grasp that you cannot phase through track, hence it’s running into limitations.

If a friend doesn’t know the answer, they’ll say as much. Under no circumstances do they just confidently make stuff up and you have to remember to challenge them, or have to go independently verify all the information yourself

Except where it doesn’t, and just further hallucinates, very confidently telling the user some is true when it isn’t. If it would hold its hands up and say “idk”, I’d give it a lot more slack. But LLMs REALLY want to answer no matter what in my experience.

I’d be open to paying $20 a month or whatever if I actually had any bloody clue what to use it for beyond the occasional redrafting of existing text. I think I missed the boarding call for the AI train and so I’m just mystified at the hype.

It’s just Le Chat Free. But over on the OpenAI side, at least ChatGPT (free ofc) acknowledges a real answer to my prompt but it hallucinates real world applications when in reality there are only some patents.

Could I get better performance paying $200 a month for whatever top spec OpenAI model? Probably, but my need to ask questions that would make any return on investment is vanishingly small

Le Chat screenshot responding to the question “how do maglev trains switch tracks?”, showing an output of:
Maglev trains, which use magnetic levitation to move without touching the track, switch tracks differently than conventional trains. Here's a general overview of how maglev trains switch tracks:

1. **Magnetic Switching**: Maglev trains use magnetic forces for both levitation and propulsion. To switch tracks, the magnetic fields are manipulated to guide the train from one track to another. This is typically done using specialized switch sections where the magnetic fields can be adjusted.

2. **Guideway Design**: The guideway (the track structure) for maglev trains is designed with switch sections that allow the train to move from one line to another. These switch sections are equipped with electromagnets or other magnetic devices that can change the direction of the magnetic field to guide the train.

3. **Control Systems**: Advanced control systems are used to coordinate the switching process. These systems ensure that the magnetic fields are adjusted at the right time and in the right sequence to smoothly guide the train through the switch.

4. **Speed and Safety**: Switching tracks is done at controlled speeds to ensure safety and smooth operation. The control systems monitor the train's speed and position to make sure the switch is executed correctly.

5. **Types of Switches**: There are different types of switches used in maglev systems, including mechanical switches and magnetic switches. Magnetic switches are more common in modern maglev systems because they allow for smoother and faster switching.

Overall, the switching process in maglev trains is highly automated and relies on precise control of magnetic fields to ensure safe and efficient operation

I’ve used a bunch that are in LM Studio but I’m by no means well versed in which specific models are good and how much of a capability deficit they have from running locally. Similarly, I’ve just asked Mistral Le Chat one of my example questions and it still hallucinates to this day.

10 months ago 0 0 1 0

I can’t see why hallucinations aren’t a huge problem - LLMs frequently make shit up when I ask it about something I know, and hence I have very little trust asking it things I can’t immediately validate at first glance.

There’s some bizarre urban planning here which makes the city centre reminiscent of the City of London at night and the weekend.

There’s some mixed use development but it’s frustratingly far from the station and there’s literally detached houses with large gardens on one side of MK central station
