The thing that strikes me as the blandest choice is that the lighting is simply there rather than creating some kind of mood or intention. It feels like their goal was to simulate realism, and as a result it’s almost clinical.

I’ve had this same exact feeling. Fidelity wise it’s good but the aesthetic choices are yawn inducing. I think comparing it to DD makes this really clear. That’s a world with an identity, it has a feel, a quirk it just can’t afford to detail every area. CD looks as safe as possible.
