I’m having a hard time being perceive as the bad guy for drawing a line in the sand, for saying this is not right and if we don’t see eye to eye on things like human rights, safety, justice, fairness, freedom and all the things that makes society good, I don’t have to fight you… 7/8

In short- I didn’t want to go to a party and in return received a thorough education on who my family members really are.
Maybe many people live that way and believe those things. I don’t believe I’m powerless…or anyone else for that matter. 6/8

They admitted that they do not care what happens in US politics until it directly affects them personally. That any fears and anxieties I have for my children’s futures are in my head.
Any injustice is met with a shrug. 5/8

And even though I have had an active interest in politic for years and they do not and as they continue to spout outdated talking points that have be debunked years ago, they feel I obviously have no idea how the “real world works” and they know more about politics than I do. 4/8

This lead to my family basically coming together to tell me that I’m in “too deep,” that I let personal politics ruin their day, and there is no point in me caring about politics because there is absolutely nothing I can do about it anyway. (Their words. Not mine.) 3/8

The rest of my family was super pissed that I wouldn’t let them come pick up my kids for the day. My husband and I had other plans that day and (all in all) we’re the parents and should have the final say on how they spend their day. Wild concept, right? 2/8
