I’m right backstage during this moment; I can hear it. I remember that night Adam references quite clearly. Once in a while, since we opened, there is a little laughter (nervous, sometimes?) but this was different and awful. I support the ways both Adam and Eddie have dealt with it.
In late November, when Adam Lambert talked to me, very thoughtfully, about playing the Emcee in “Cabaret,” he spoke about trying to guide the audience through “If You Could See Her.” He also mentioned that the audience’s drinking is a factor in their response.

Seems I might need to clarify - Adam is currently playing the Emcee in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club on Broadway. He’s wonderful in the role, a terrific colleague, and a sweetheart. (I’m also in the show, so I heard him do this from my dressing room.)

Saw in Cabaret for the second time tonight - first time seeing Adam Lambert and Auli’i Cravalho and they were PHENOMENAL. Maybe it’s the cast change, maybe the show just hits differently post-election, but it was fantastic and really resonated in a way that I didn’t experience the first time.
